Stewart could partner with JR Motorsports?
Quote selected text Published May 19th, 2008 in NASCAR News
ESPN is reporting that two-time Cup champion Tony Stewart, who is exploring options outside of Joe Gibbs Racing, reportedly could be a partner with JR Motorsports. But Stewart’s contract doesn’t expire until after the 2009 season and team president J.D. Gibbs has said he will hold Stewart to it.
Haas CNC Racing has been reported to be a team interested to teaming with Stewart and possibly some other teams as well.
- Busch team Brewco to be sold to Gibbs?
- Mercedes Could Buy McLaren-Haug
- Chevy to back Tony Stewart’s Sprint Car team
- Evernham looks for financial partner to invest in team
- Cosworth on hunt for 2007 partner

Is this ESPN really reporting this from sources, or is this Marty “I’m Jrs Biggest Fanboy” Smith just grasping at straws to make a story because there was no real drama coming out of the All-star race and he needs something to talk about tonight on NASCAR Now…..

This really tells us a lot…. key word “could”, but probably “won’t”
that would be an interesting combo
but from the sound of things
stewart wants ownership
This would be a good choice if he partnered with Jr Motorsports, they are good friends anyway which would make a great team relationship or partner relationship…

Probably Marty just throwing a story out there and hoping it sticks!
Although with the rumors of JR Motorsports going cup racing, this is pretty much a logical assumption… Tony and Jr are friends, Jr Motorsports has a deal with Chevy, and they would more than likely have Hendrick power under the hood. So that would be another possibility for Smoke, but it sure doesn’t sound like JGR is going to budge on making him stick out his agreement, and I don’t blame them!
Pure speculation, yes he could partner with JR Motorsports but will he? I dont think so, if he is looking for such a deal i would think that Haas looks more appealing since they are already established. But if he does go to Haas i look for Truex to go with him.

JRM is already established as well if you at it the way i do…HMS provides the chassis/engines for JRM’s NWS team as it is….You think JR couldnt buy some cars/engines from HMS for his cup team? Smoke would be driving the same equipment as JR and Johnson and Gordon are right now…but thats my guess…I think smoke is better off staying put, although i know hes very partial to GM, but with the way Gibbs has been running since the manufacturer switch, he should stay….

and Fisha, seriously…is there an artcile about JR or JRM that you dont have to make stupid/rude comments on? we get that you dont like JR…its said day in and day out…we get it…do we care? NO….your opinion…there is nothing JR could do to get you to shut your cake hole…maybe win those 6 races DW predicted or possibly the 2008 Sprint Cup Title….would that shut you up?…doubtful…so drop it…its getting old and BEYOND annoying
i bet you LOVE the AMP Enegry commercial about JR Nation on your local radio station

You missed the point that i was trying to make and yes JRM is established in the nationwide series but not in cup and would need to change everything. Haas is already setup and also has hendrick motors and chassis. With some crew member changes that operation could be ready to win races in a very short period of time.
JRM has done really well for as young as the company is but they are not ready to win races at the cup level. If they were ready they would go after Tony and Truex full force but they know they need to grow some more before that happens.

Actually my statement that you quoted had nothing to do with Jr and it was a Shot at Marty Smith, who since the day he started writing for NASCAR.com till present has been nothing but a biased fanboy towards a few drivers, and most NASCAR fans will agree with that.
It was also a shot at ESPN who since their return to NASCAR last year have done just about nothing except reporting Rumor as Fact. Anybody remember Both Jr’s going to JRM in Cup for the 2008 season with full backing from RCR? Yeah ESPN said that was a done deal, to steal some of DJ’s thunder they pretty much said it was Signed Sealed and Delivered….. And what do you know Marty “I swear that it was true” Smith and ESPN were 100% wrong.
About that commercial thing, Haven’t heard it, at work we listed to a Rock station out of the UK and in my car I listen to CDs, heck the only time I really listen to a local radio station is on my way home from the races on Saturday nights I turn on Open House Party.
Nobody has really had the inside scoop since Benny passed away.
What would happen if you combined JRM and Hass? Would Tony be interested then?

I think the thing that stands in the way is Tony wants at least 51% ownership, and Jr wants at least 51% ownership in his own team.
Plus one thing you never want to do in racing is go 50/50 with anybody in ownership, it never works out good.
One thing i can tell you for sure! 50/50 is the worst type of partnership, especially for friends. This I know from experience.
Just think one of you COULD be the winner of tonights lottery!! LOL

Just making a point that this story could be straight from National Enquier.Your right fisha965 I think ESPN is a joke since they came back,Tim Brewer talks alot but says nothing,Dr.Jerry is the only one that knows what he’s doing,Rusty Wallace please….What ever happened to Bob Jenkins?I sure miss the good old days with Bob, Ned and Benny!
O yea what about RPM2nite originally with Kenny Mayne ,then with John Kernan, that was a good news show.Just the facts mam!
