Stewart cools off after Daytona wreck, says he’s ok with Hamlin
Quote selected text Published July 11th, 2007 in NASCAR News
On his weekly satellite radio show, Stewart said he had not yet talked with teammate Denny Hamlin but that he has cooled off from last Saturday night’s wreck with his young teammate that took both cars out of contention in the race.
“Oh, yeah. And the thing that people didn’t understand about the deal the other day is I remember when we were in Sonoma [last month] and he had just won the Busch race at Milwaukee and I put a note on his door just telling him that I was proud of him and he did a good job with the circumstances that happened there,” he said
“I love the kid like a little brother. There’s not any animosity from that. It’s just as tough as the competition is and the way that some of the things happen during the weekend and early in the race like that, I think there’s ways that we can work as teammates better … But we’ll get all that stuff figured out. And that’s just part of being young teammates. I mean, we’ve only worked with each other a year and a half.”

He’s very talented, but what a drama queen.
Translated: “I’m an emotional basket-case”
I’d hate to be Tony Stewart’s friend. You’d never know what you’d be getting each time you talked with him. I’ve dated girls like that. Some didn’t have as breasts as big as Tony’s…
He just over reacts on a consistent basis.
So he has a competitive spirit and mouths off when they shove a camera
in his face and ask the stupid question: “What happened out there?”
and that makes him an emotional basketcase? Kudos for apologizing.
Great comment Glenstapo. :]
But yes, I’m sure it’s hard working with Tony.
or he can just walk away when the interviewer asks for an interview…
Leave the guy alone and stop bashing him..he’s a good guy. Don’t put him down and say he isn’t because he can’t keep his cool when there’s a microphone shoved in his face after a crash that took him out of one of the most important races. Anybody recall Harvick doing the same? You can’t always expect pansies and roses to come out of their mouths right after something like that happens. Some of you “fans” expect too much.
He cant walk away from an interviewer remember he got in trouble for that earlier in the year? So hes following the rules to a T now.
But Amanda, Why is it 99% of the drivers on a regular basis can grin and bare it? I know they’ve all lost it at one time or another, but it’s a weekly soap opera with him. I’m not saying don’t speak your mind, but he’s sounds like a 7th grader with less than witty comments. You all keep saying the word shoved in his face as far as camera’s or mic’s but he was standing there as a willing interviewer and yes he could have easily said no comment or let them know he wasn’t up for an interview. He can apollogize a million times but when he continually belittles his fellow drivers, especially the ones he considers not at his level, that’s a problem. He picks and chooses also, if you don’t think so then let’s see if he’d bash Junior or Bobby Labonte.
You think he picks and chooses the people he rants at. I would venture to say if the KING would have took him out in the warm up laps with that tribute white car he would have had some choice words about drivers retired should stay retired an off the track or something like that… He is just being Tony the terrible.
Well, there are somethings you can always count on:
1) Stewart to make an ass out of himself every week
2) Amanda & Breanna to be his professional apologists
But you got one thing right, Amanda, when you compared him to Harvick. They are two of a kind, just alike, running their mouth before putting their brain in gear.
Stewart will never change because his problem is not simply a lack of maturity, but is, more fundamentally, a character flaw that he can’t control. In the meantime, he goes on week after week, year after year, trashing his fellow drivers, teammates and the sports’ decision makers in the media, only to come back a few days later and make feeble excuses like “Oh, yeah. And the thing that people didn’t understand about the deal the other day is I remember when we were in Sonoma [last month] and he had just won the Busch race at Milwaukee and I put a note on his door just telling him that I was proud of him and he did a good job with the circumstances that happened there,” he said.
And every week, Stewart makes himself out to be more of a clown.
This wasn’t just anyone, it was his teammate. Bite your lip and talk about in private.
geez enough bashing of Stewart
The bashing will never stop because behind every successful person is a pack of haters. Most people here whine about how Tony is whining but the only thing here is Tony speaks his mind for 2 minutes but these people carry it on for months.
What a big baby. That is the reason why i can not stand Tony Stewert. He is a freakin huge drama queen. He reminds me of a little kid who is in the store and throws a temper tantrum when his momma doesn’t buy him a toy. He needs his @$$%#@ kicked one good time and maybe, just maybe, he will lose the temper that he has.
I have seen Tony Stewert on other shows and in public he is a totally different person. He walks around cocky and thinking he is big $4!# when he isn’t.
Poor Denny, I like that kid from day one. I feel sorry he has to hear the mouth of Stewert when things go wrong. Maybe Hendrick can lose Mears and sign Hamlin!
I agree 100% Mike!!
compare tony and jeff, very successful yet a huge pack of haters, so i agree wit u mike. tony yet has an attitude which if he keeps takin this out to the track he might end up hurting someone
4speed - right on the money!!!
Look its a race to win and what happens to non-celebrities when they dont win, its someone elses fault. Its human nature the moment you’ve been torn out of a race to feel that way, sure he should learn to shut it sometimes but what about the Jr. haters and gordon haters, everyone has their turn. maybe not this year but it will be someone else next year.
Give the guy a break at least he can apologize that more than I can say for most of them! He means well he has a temper like most guys and unfortunatly for him a mouth to follow.
Again, it’d be nice to see what you did when it’s one of the biggest
races of the year in the career you’ve worked your entire life to
achieve, you’ve just been in a wreck, and a moron reporter has a
microphone stuffed halfway up your nose asking a really stupid question.
Pardon him for not putting out his pinky finger and asking said
reporter for tea to discuss it rationally? He does indeed mouth off
when he’s angry, no doubt about that. But so would other drivers, I’m
sure. Reporters just automatically go to Tony for the drama this
creates because they know they can needle him. Like somebody said,
it’s a two-minute sound clip that creates ongoing drama. Reporters
thrive off that.
Thank you, Brianna. Someone with intelligence.
And those of you who CONTINUALLY find the need to make post after post on this topic calling him a ‘baby’, a ‘loser’, a ‘whiner’.. get over it. He says stupid things that he doesn’t mean in the heat of the moment. He at least has the damn decency to SAY he didn’t mean it later on after he cools down, unlike some other drivers. When have you ever heard Gordon say he was sorry for commenting on something the wrong way? When have you heard Harvick say he was sorry?
I swear you people jump at the chance to fault Tony. The second he steps the wrong way on a crack the haters jump his bones. Get over it. There’s people in this world that voice themselves loudly; while there are others who don’t. You’re living in this world and you should know that by now and accept that fact.
test..
This is my first posting but it will not be my last. I have found this place and since I am a lifelong race fan, I am excited to be here. I will try to abide by the rules and keep it professional. I welcome any and all replies if personal attacks and juvenile behavior are kept to a minimum. A little ribbing and fun digs are OK as I am a big boy and can take it. Just know I can dish it too. OK enough of that. Out of the gate I am going to piss off 90% of you. I am a lifelong Gordon fan. I was a fan when he raced on dirt as a teen so I know what kind of driver and what caliber of person he is. We are not friends, but we’ve met. As for this subject. I will only say that NASCAR needs personalities both good and bad and without stooges, we would have little to discuss other than cars on a track. It’s the people that make a sport great and our sport is the greatest because of it. I believe Stewart to be the king daddy of stooges along with Kurt, Kyle, and Kevin. Youth has a way of showing immaturity. Stewart, among others, has never grew out of his. He is a very capable driver, but lets his head keep him out of the winners circle more often than not and that is a very important factor when considering greatness. Anyone can put pedal to metal. A brain both on and off the track creates
As the saying goes, “That’s mighty white of him”.
Oops. Still getting used to this. I’ll try to get’er out of second gear. As I was saying, a brain both on and off the track creates a desire for fans to be drawn to someone. He and his fans know he shouldn’t have trashed his teammate and this is just another in a long line of faux pax (that means mistakes to you E fans in Talladega!) and why Stewart will not be considered one of the greatest of all time. His talent is there, but his head isn’t. I just calls’em like I sees’em.
Part of being a professional athelete is dealing with the press. Tony acts like he is a professional wrestler, always trying to stir the pot. Maybe Tony os right, Nascar is just like wrestling and Tony is helping that.
By the way, I like little E. I am not a fan of his ignorant fans. Little E is a stand up guy and I respect him more than his dad. His talent may not be as big as his dads, but a man’s greatness doesn’t always equate wins or championships. I am excited to see what kind of rivalry there will be with the 24 and 48 now that little E will have equal equipment. I never understood why his fans would want him to be with inferior equipment, rather than give him the best chance at a championship. I just calls’em like I sees’em.
Did his parents give him EVERYTHING he wanted??? Didn’t he ever show them his abusive temper??? They should have squelched that immediately. He should have “sat in time out for an hour or two” every now and then and maybe he wouldn’t be so damn short-tempered.
Tony all I have to say is SHAKE THEM HATERS OFF!!!
He needs a a$$ whopping.
toonys not getting the attention that he nees this year everybady is beating him out of the spot light, and he just cant standf it
Haha.. Ya’ll sure do have alot of interest in him considering he is such a clown/stooge. Boo’s or cheers… Its all the noise a driver needs.
Tony just has the media up his ass more than anyone else, that’s why we hear all these things. Tony also says exactly what he is thinking, whether it is right or wrong… I guess honesty isn’t desirable anymore. He might freak out but that is his personality. At least he’s not giving everyone what they want just to make money or keep fans, he’s being true to himself.
I guess we should all be praying for Tony to become a fake who does what he’s told and does what “fans” who follow where ever the wind blows want him to do. I know there are exceptions to this but how can you fault a guy for being honest, even if you disagree? He may go too hard on the track sometimes but that’s racing. I’m tired of seeing drivers who are just happy to be “here” and are scared of stepping on toes. Real men don’t follow, regardless of the consequences.
Evidently Tony doesn’t know how to follow…..or come to think of it lead either. As for the “media up his rectum (rectum…damn near killed em!) comment, Tony puts himself in front of every mic and has his own radio show. He LOVES the attention. I respect someone who says what they think. If it’s intellegent, I’ll even listen. After so many times of being a stooge, enough is enough. He isn’t that good of a driver. His head has kept him out of winners circles more times than his foot has put him there. Stupid is as stupid does. If he (and his fans) can’t take the pressure, get out of the drivers seat. He says he might retire. I think he should. The non-driving fool.
It seems to me like Tony would be better suited in the political world. Always blaming the other parties for their own f-ups. He’s definately a jackass. I guess he’d be a democrat.
“He isn’t even that good of a driver. His head has kept him out of
winner’s circles more times than his foot has put him there.”
Oh? Then why can he jump in any kind of car and drive the wheels off
it? At Watkins, it was either two or three years ago, Tony had a severe
stomach bug and let’s just say he couldn’t hold it anymore, but he still
finished the race because he knew he could win. And guess what? He did.
And yes, I know this story to be true, I witnessed it. Gross? Yeah,
pretty much. Competitive spirit? Oh hell yeah. And when it really
comes down to it, that’s the most important part.
Obviously he can take the pressure, because he’s the one with enough
ba__s to look into a camera being broadcast to millions of people and
“call it as he sees it”. And obviously his fans can as well, because
they’re willing to come on here and debate it.

DRAMA QUEEN CALLS IT LIKE HE SEES IT!
How manly.

For everyone and especially the frequent posters on our site:
If you’re going to insist to keep on swearing and being inappropriate we will insist on banning you!
It’s really not that hard…we don’t even require that comments on here be totally ‘vanilla’.
You people know when it’s inappropriate….so do not do it, becasue when you do, you disrespect the others commenting on here.
Anything can be called drama, but the events we discuss on here are part of something called life (even in the artificial world of motor sports).
Tony gets angry and it is perceived as drama by the “queen” types.
Oooey!! Quite an argument. 2 points 2 ponder. #1 Breanna, it’s because he drives the wheels off it that he has lost races. That, I believe is what calls/sees implied and I agree. Tony is a past champion and can drive a car. His personality is what draws his fans
and foes alike and will have a bearing on his legacy of being a stock car driver.
#2 How many years since Stewart came to NASCAR has he finished a year without being on disciplinary probation at some
point in a season? Stewart fan or not, he has anger management issues.
Axel, would you say the same thing if Hamlin had shown his butt had blamed Stewart for taking them both out (which would have been the truth) and said similar things? I’ll bet
that you wouldn’t. My guess is that you would flip-flop your attitude faster than a Hendrick engine and called Hamlin a whiner, crybaby, or a “queen” and his fans gay or something
stupid like that. I can tell you are a Stewart fan, a moron, and not really a true racing fan.
Though directed at Axel not me, I’m pretty sure we share the same
belief: Doesn’t matter who screwed up, call it fair. If Hamlin would
of been acting the em. Butt. As you put it. I know I would’ve still
said the same things.
Life?….surely with your experience, you mean ‘child-life’.
Breanna,
When you become a man with a set of B#lls, I will listen to your opinion!
That doesn’t make any sense… Especially seeing as I’m a chick…
What was your point with that? Em. Yeah.
Tony Stewart is a chode and Denny is the one, who should be angry. Considering Tony is the 1 who took em both out. Take responsibility to your own actions, Pansey! Will some one get this chump a diaper, a blanky and a binkey? Cuz I’m tired of listening to Tony whine and cry every weekend! Get over your self, dude! Grow up!
If you think that it was Denny’s fault for causing that wreck, not only are you retarded but you need your eyes examined. HE WAS TAPPED IN THE REAR BY TONY! HELLO!
Oh by the way, HE TAPPED HIM COMING OUT OF THE CORNER!
How a professional driver would have backed off and then tried to gain the lead in the long run run or try to out manuver him in another corner.
SIMPLY RETARDS !
And you know how Tony complains about people racing too hard in the beginning when he is taken out of a race?
What the hell do you call what Tony did?
1. It was early in the race.
2. He was all over Denny rear bumper.
3. He tapped Denny out of the corner causing a wreck that took them both out.
SOUND LIKE HE WAS DRIVING TOO HARD TO ME!
Thanks, Breanna. You may not have balls but you hit the nail on the head…
Fate300m, Tony was driving hard… if you read the other posts you’ll see that no one is in denial of that or in denial of Tony being at fault.
Tony was riding close to get the advantage coming down the front stretch and make the pass. You don’t just suddenly make a move without doing many things prior to get a run going on a track like Daytona. Denny slowed up pretty abruptly given that they had made some similar revolutions around the track with no issue…
I don’t see how Tony’s driving and wanting to lead at Daytona makes him unprofessional.. His ass showing after the race was unprofessional, however. Still, its who he is and why ask someone to be fake?
I am a Tony fan but I have to agree that he does need to learn how to control his temper and think twice before he says something he will regret as soon as it is said. I have said things in the heat of the moment that I wish I could stop and rewind to try again but once its said its done. I am sure its happened to all of us.
