Tony StewartThe war of words over last weekends’ pit stall fender banging incident between Tony Stewart and Paul Menard escalated with Stewart taking verbal shots on his radio show and Menard firing back in the garage area at Martinsville.

“Well, it’s a situation and I normally would keep my mouth shut on this, but I just have a hard time doing it today,” Stewart said on the show. “You can have your father buy your ride and write DEI a big check, but you can’t buy talent.

“And that’s what John Menard’s been good at his whole life, is just buying success. He’s bought his son a Nextel Cup ride and he’s just got enough talent to just be in the way most of the time.”

Menard has heard only bits and pieces of what Stewart said. He reminded that his father gave the two-time Nextel Cup champion his first Indy Racing League ride in 1996 and sponsored him in 1997 when he won the IRL title.

“I’ve known Tony for 10 years,” Menard said. “He’s not a very mature person. Yeah, I wouldn’t be here if my family didn’t support me. I don’t think he would be either if his family didn’t support him. You can’t get too wrapped up in it.

“I know him well enough to know he’s a 50-year-old kid in a six-year-old’s body. He’s got the platform to say that stuff. Good for him. I hope he feels better about it.”

He [Stewart] complained that the 31 drivers outside the Chase shouldn’t have so much control over how the 12 drivers competing for a title finish.

“He better get used to it, because there are always going to be 43 cars out there, not 12,” said Menard.

Can anyone tell me when Tony did keep his mouth shut on something? EVER??

I’m really tired of his schtick and he’s looking a fat old buzzard to boot!

    What a whiner!

That was very disrespectful on Stewart’s part.

  3. 3 Chris

It really bugs me that Tony keeps saying “12 drivers should not be able to control the race” like the other 31 drivers should just move over when those guys come through. That’s what the chase is about, surviving the RACE. Just because the other guys didn’t make it, don’t mean they shouldn’t be out there doing what they have done before the chase even began. He needs to get over himself and realize that he is just a big whiner and he is never going to win another championship with that attitude. Besides, it was all on his crew chief and spotter that the pit road incident even happened. Had Menard not ran into him at just that right time, Kasey Kahne probably still would have been involved, only then It would be Stewart blocking Kahne from getting to his pit. STOP WHINING TONY!!! Jeeze…

Yeah I found the fact that Tony said he normally kept his mouth shut funny too.

to people who always say tony speaks his mind like no other driver has the b*lls to. well ur right but its crap when he gets in trouble for saying that and tries to apolgize by taking back wat he said. tony just needs to keep all his piece of crap comments to himself

  7. 7 dei fan

tony stewart is a great driver but he is the rudest b*st*rd out there, if there was no chase he’d still have 42 other cars deciding the championship. he is a n idiot who just needs an excuse when he does bad,and Paul said his dad sponsored Tony, that shows the kind of man tony is. he really has respect for others!

Yes it was wrong on Tony’s part to say what he said but this just gives everyone something to talk about since there hasnt been much lately and of course it is with Tony the guy that yall all love to hate. He is a great driver just needs to learn to keep his mouth closed at times.

Good for Menard for speaking out, call him on the carpet about his comments. Tony needs to be yanked down for his pedestal every so often with a dose of reality. I love Channel 128 but don’t listen to his show, I take it I’m really missing out on something big, at least by showtime he’s had a few days to cool off but his comments about Menard were a bit harsh it seems.

…I guess it was SOOOOO different LAST year when he was one of the guys who were not in the Chase. I don’t remember him turning on blinker signals or pulling over to the wall and stopping so the Chasers could easily make their way through the race, picturing Tony doing the classic Dale Junior bow to the crowd makes me laugh, no Jimmy, after you, I insist. And she scratches her head wondering why this gem of a guy is still single…

  11. 11 26fan

didnt tony hit kahne in the pits to he didnt say anything about that (OH YEAH! THAT was tonys fault) but did kasey bitch????? tony i got a binkie for you im sure my baby will give it to you

  12. 12 26fan

Tony won the his IndyCar championship in a car owned by John Menard. He is a good driver, and he used to be a decent guy, but when he moved to NASCAR he got an attitude like everyone owes him. I bet if you totaled the bad Tony has done vs. the good stuff he said it would be a little lopsided. MAybe that is why he has not done so good this year, he is busy thinking of the next smarta$$ thing to say instead of thinking about his driving.

  13. 13 Hunkerdown Registered User

You’ve got to remember Kasey is in his little click. It’s like he’s in with the cool kids in school. There’s a list of certain drivers that he’d never bad mouth or question their driving ability. The rest are fair game. The only good thing I can say about him is he’s a driving talent. Otherwise this shallow jerk is classless and tiring to watch rant like he does. He’s like a lil brat we’ve all encountered once in our life that you just know one good whipping would shut him up. Oh yeah it’s no surprise this smooth talking gent is still single. Heck If he didn’t keep his pet monkey in a cage he’d be gone too!

  14. 14 Hunkerdown Registered User

Remember how funny it was how mad he got earlier in the season when he was boo’d by the people in the stands after wrecking Junior who was leading at the time? Why don’t we boo him at every race and see if the mind game messes with his race? If he can run his mouth, so can we!

  15. 15 Alex

I think im going to menard’s this weekend, Maybe put some money towards paul’s fund so he can be in tony’s way more often.

  16. 16 Julie

Just another way Tony seems to show off his “wonderful personality”. NOT!!!

  17. 17 Luke Warmwater

Stewart may be an ass for running his mouth, but unfortunately he’s right. Menard is only there because his old man is loaded and banging Teresa Earnhardt. PM barely has the talent level to run at my local speedway, let alone Cup. Paul Menard would be better served to step out of the racecar and run the forklift when I go to Menards to get pavers.

  18. 18 Tina

Oh please, Menard has no talent, now you’re grasping. I love the idea of doing burnouts in the HomeDepot parking lot and driving next door to Menard’s to fund the talentless driver’s mad money fund. And let’s leave the sleeping around comments to the Everham thread… Oh, now that’s a thought, maybe since Crocker is rumored to be canned from Everham and looking for a ride in 08, she should take Menard’s ride…maybe this way the sleeping with the boss comments would go away????

Menard can drive a race car, so frickin what Daddy’s got money, don’t hate the Playa, hate the game…

  19. 19 Luke Warmwater

I just call it like I see it. $$$ instead of Cup level talent. Menard has one Busch win and nothing else to show as a reason for being in Cup. And…it’s no secret that John Menard and Teresa Earnhardt are an item, so I think it’s perfectly ok to bring it up on these boards. It’s not like we are talking about Buffy Waltrip and Dale Jarrett!

  20. 20 Tony-a

It seems to me that there is a lot of the “pot calling the kettle black” on here. So many of you enjoy whining about Tony. I’d rather him be outspoken and original than for him to be uptight and scripted. I agree with Luke and now I am curious about Buffy and Dale Jarrett?!?

  21. 21 Mike

If you ever attend a cup race make sure you rent Fan Scan. Stewarts language is quite colorful, and the way he beraids his crew is priceless!

  22. 22 nichole-dljrfan8

I am a fan of Tony Stewart but he can be a real jerk.

  23. 23 Paul Ryan

  24. 24 sammi Registered User

    good for you, paul !

  25. 25 Hunkerdown Registered User

Hmmm Maybe there’s a reason we don’t “diss” the other drivers………I just can’t put my finger on the reason why thou…………..WAIT! Oh yeah! It’s because they don’t act immature and throw out comments of how inferior the rest of the field is to him. Those of you who think he’s so right and we need to laugh along with his stupidity wouldn’t like it so much if it was YOU in his cross hairs and goes off on one of his melt downs. Giving this jerk his own radio show is like giving an alcoholic his very own Budweiser delivery truck loaded down.

  26. 26 marc

Look Tony can drive the wheels off anything thats a given. But is actions toward people leave alot to be desired!

I dont bad mouth my driver because my driver just straight up says it like it is, we blew up, I got loose. It was my fault and I apoligize for wrecking whoever.

Most drivers take responsibility for their own actions. Tony and Zippy are good friends and The Gibbs organization are class people. The thing that gets me is why does the Gibb organization put up with his antics? Joe Gibbs is a devoted Christian.

As for Tonys radio show he bought the show he wasnt hired.

Kasey Kahne and Tony have alot in common. They are both track partners ( Eldora) and they both own sprint car teams. Therefore they are Saturday night racers who love the dirt more than the asphalt. They both are just in it for the money, Tony said it himself a few years back.

As for Theresa and Menard. How long can you expect a woman to go without sex? I lost all repect for her when she canned Dale Jr and wouldnt give up the 8 number. I will guarantee this tho her last name will never change.

O and by the way My driver is Earnhardt and no matter what - you tell me the last time he whined about other drivers?

Bottom line is this is all Nascars fault by making a Chase. If there wasnt a Chase and all 43 drivers had a legit shot all year the whining about moving over would be over. Nascar impliments a gentlemans agreement at the drivers meeting ( I witnessed it ) and I quote ” There are 12 teams running for a championship, be courteous there will be a time when you may be in this position” this is like telling the rest of the drivers NOT in the chase to move over. Maybe Tony feels this is a rule. To me this is BS. Get rid of the Chase!! Its stupid and its all the TV talks about anyway.

You’re absolutely right. It might have been uncalled for, but once again Stewart has said what everyone else knew and nobody had the stones to say! His dad may or may not be porking Teresa, but if he wasn’t filthy stinking rich, his son certainly wouldn’t have a cup ride.

So, give me something useful that Paul Menard has done, and i’ll tell you that Tony is in the wrong.
    Oh?
    Oh, what’s that?
Paul Menard hasn’t done anything, has he?
    Exactly.

I swear, the title says Tony Stewart and everyone jumps at the chace to lash out with reasons he ’sucks’, ‘whines’ and is ‘immature’.
Well, sorry Tony isn’t some goody two-shoes who puts his pinkie up when he drinks his tea. At least he has the balls to say the things that others wouldn’t. Yes, he’s outspoken. That’s what makes him who he is.
Paul’s daddy paid for his Cup ride.
Again, please tell me when Paul last won in a Cup race? When was he ever even CLOSE to competing for the Cup?

  34. 34 Hunkerdown Registered User

You see all you pro-stewart people out there have the same soap box and story. (In my best huffy voice) “At least he has the guts to say Whaa whaa whaa” Like I said earlier in this thread that YES he is a very talented driver, no doubt. Does his own mouth rant and stroke his huge ego all at the same time making himself look like a total tool? Of course and the rest of us see this while the Stewart saps make excuses.

Why is it Junior can make a clear point of what he thinks of another driver and not come off sounding like he thinks he’s better than all the rest? Or for that fact most of all the other drivers (with their pinkies up), yet Tony always wants to belittle everyone that he’s had a run in with. It’s quite tiresome truthfully. We don’t need the Big ego, self-loving sports figures like they have in pro-football, baseball & Basketball in Nascar.

Oh yeah while we’re labeling him, let me throw in also that he’s a hypocrite for bashing the media for trying to do their job and then what what does he do but become the media himself with his radio show. Straight up, he’s just classless.

I’ll give Menard credit. He knows he’s a no talent jerk using daddy’s money to have a career in NASCAR. A little wouldn’t hurt either, Paul.

  40. 40 Ar

The accident was Tony’s mistake. He only got fuel, and there was no way for Menard to know he would be pulling back out so quickly. It is my understanding the guy pulling out is supposed to yield. I don’t care about who is sleeping with whom, etc. Tony made the mistake and should acknowledge it instead of bad-mouthing the rest of the drivers.

Wrong. All 43+ drivers still have a legit chance on winning the championship. But when was the last time you knew that the championship was in a 43-way tie coming down to the last race of the season? By the time the last 10 races come up, it’s improbable (not impossible) that anyone beyond 12th place will vie for the championship anyway. If they haven’t performed by race #26, it likely won’t happen by race #36.

Anyway, I am a huge Tony fan. I will set myself aside from the pack, though, because I am not a lemming who’ll follow Tony over a cliff. Many-a-time I have to go into work on Monday and take my lumps for something stupid that Tony did or said on Sunday. I don’t blindly back him up with some lame retort like “Oh yeah? Well, at least he has the guts to blah blah blah Jeff Gordon is gay blah blah blah and don’t forget Jimmie Johnson blah blah blah.” He drives the hell out of whatever machine he’s in. But the crap that comes out of his mouth makes me wonder if he’s about as smart as an engine block. I can recognize that as a Tony fan and will openly admit it (obviously as you read this).

Don’t get started on Joe Gibbs being a devout Christian. He may be a Christian (I read his book) but he is also a business man. There was the big brouhaha over Junior going to JGR but he couldn’t bring Budweiser because of moral issues. Puh-leeeze. Gibbs doesn’t mind taking sponsorship dollars from predatory lender MBNA. And you don’t even want to know about how unhealthy the food is from ConAgra.

  42. 42 RedDevil

Boohoo since Stewart speaks his mind and isn’t a “nice guy” he gets jumped on everytime he speaks out. I’d seriously stop watching NASCAR if there wasn’t drivers like Stewart, Harvick, Robby Gordon, and Pablo(somewhat). Some drivers have a dim personality.

  43. 43 RedDevil

But, I do think Tony needs to think a little before he speaks. I don’t mean not speak out altogether.. just speak out what needs to be spoken.
