UPDATE 3:
Tony Stewart hit Kurt Busch with more than his car on Friday night at Daytona International Speedway.
The two-time Sprint Cup champion also hit Busch with his fist inside a NASCAR hauler, sources close to the situation confirmed on Saturday.
The second incident occurred while the drivers discussed the first incident with series director John Darby and vice president of competition Robin Pemberton.
Officials from NASCAR, Joe Gibbs Racing and Penske Racing would neither confirm nor deny the punch occurred, saying what happens in the hauler stays in the hauler.
Darby, however, said a Saturday morning meeting was less “hostile” and that the second meeting was called to give all parties time to cool off.
“Partially, I wanted to make sure that in the heat of everything last night our message was delivered very clearly to both competitors,” he said. “So we let them go back to the buses and sleep on it overnight.”

Statement by Tony Stewart:
“Kurt got here because he has a lot of talent,” Stewart said. “What Kurt did coming onto pit road … I’ve done a lot worse than what he did, so I’m not going to throw stones about it.
“It’s a different car package than what we’ve ever had here. The closing rates are different. And nobody whose race car got torn up last night is happy. Kurt’s emotion and his desire and passion to win are much like mine. The easiest way for us to go out and do what we do is just to agree to disagree and go on from there.
“I’m not mad at him about what happened on the race track at all. What happened, happened. We can’t fix it. We cant change it. The best thing to do is go on and move forward and not let this linger between the two of us. And hopefully, the media will respect that and not keep it going longer than today.
“We’ve met in the NASCAR trailer twice now, and we’re both past it and were hoping that the media will respect that fact, too, and let us move on from it.”

Sources are reporting that Tony Stewart may have thrown a punch in the NASCAR trailer Friday night after the incident, but NASCAR so far is not confirming this.

NASCAR chairman Brian France kicked off the 2008 media tour in Charlotte, N.C., last month by saying Sprint Cup drivers needed to show more of their personalities. Kurt Busch and Tony Stewart obliged on Friday night when they got into a sheet metal exchange on pit road after an on-the-track incident that wrecked both of their cars in the final practice for Saturday’s Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway.
Both drivers immediately were summoned to the NASCAR hauler to meet with Series director John Darby and competition director Robin Pemberton. They will meet again on Saturday before the governing body determines what fines, if any, will be issued. The only words spoken by either driver — both left through a side door without commenting — came from Busch before entering the hauler. “It’s a great way to start off 2008,” he said, clapping his hands together.

If this is true then I commend Tony Stewart for punching Kurt. From the replays I saw on T.V. Kurt was blocking Tony ( something you shouldn’t be doing in practice) and deserved to get punched.
I WISH Tony punched Kurt..i’d die laughing. Little boy needs to get what he deserves.
If he finally punched Kurt, maybe Kevin will finally punch JPM this year too!

Tony should’ve punched him and if he did then im glad he did. Kurt shouldn’t have blocked him like he did last night, if its on the last lap then I understand but in practice. Come on from the words of Iverson we are talking about practice. Tony should go grab a sledgehammer and go take a couple of swings at his 500 car.
it doesn’t suprise me that the first confrontation of the year involve these two guys, time for anger management again Mr. Stewart.

I love Tony Stewart. People thank he is a crybaby. And sometimes he does cry, but his hot temper makes for great entertainment. He is a live wire and you never know what he is going to say or do. As for this incident, it was racing and rubbing is racing. Kurt Busch should once again that he is the ass of the sport. Kudos to Jimmie Spencer when he punched Busch and I hope Tony did the same thing. He and his brother are little punks and I can’t stand either one of them. JR 2008 Sprint Cup Champ!!!!!!!!!!!

In the pre-race interviews I thought that Kurt’s right eye looked a little like a black eye covered with concealer.
If it’s true, he had it coming. The only thing that Tony can be faulted for is not taking care of business sooner. Not that I approve of fighting, but it seems to matter to boys.

Just put them in a cage match UFC style let them go at it. Get it done and over with. YOu can call it NFC(Nascar Fighting Championships). All disputes could be televised via ppv with the proceeds going to charity. I bet about the first time a guy got whooped in the cage he would keep his temper in check. However wasn’t it Nacar that said it wanted to go back to grass roots. Let them go at it in the infield and just give us a recap.

Yes, whoever it was that said they saw the concealer, you’re right. His right eye was POORLY covered with some powder, because you could see where it was applied and you could see it was puffy all around. I think his wife tried to cover it up. She did a bad job, because the second they started the interview with him I noticed it. His eye area was a lighter shade than the rest of his face.
