DEIUPDATE:

Steve Hmiel says it was a difference in opinion that led to his departure from Dale Earnhardt Inc.

“Just a difference in philosophy,” Hmiel said of the split Friday at Martinsville Speedway. “It was a job I grew into, so there wasn’t really ever a definition. I started out doing one thing, then added things along the way and pretty soon, you find yourself doing a lot of different stuff. But I really enjoyed it. It’s a different world now, a different time. Some of the things I saw chaffed against me, and some of the things I did chaffed against them. So we sat down and talked about it and thought we might ought to just go do this.”

Dale Earnhardt Inc. and director of competition Steve Hmiel have parted company. Hmiel’s responsibilities have been redistributed throughout the organization and his replacement will be named soon.

“I have enjoyed a wonderful association with Dale Earnhardt Inc. over the past nine years,” said Hmiel. “It is time for me to pursue other endeavors and reestablish new goals for myself. The management team at Dale Earnhardt Inc. has the company headed in the right direction and it has an exciting future as it continues to fulfill the legacy of Dale Earnhardt.”

“Steve has been a part of the success of Dale Earnhardt Inc. and we are grateful for his contributions to the company,” said John Story, vice president of motorsports. “We wish him well with his future plans.”

What amazes me is that everyone is jumping ship, and you just wonder why Mark Martin isn’t. Makes me wonder just how much bad blood was there between him and Jack or what really led to Mark leaving Roush. Why would Mark leave Roush to go to MB2, which becomes Ginn racing, which then gets absorbed by DEI. You think that would be just too much for him to handle, too many switches this late in his career.

And everybody said DEI was just getting going now that Jr. is leaving. Jr. is leaving and so is everybody else. Well exept for the music producers and such…

One thing I forgot to say after reading the whole article is…. These people are not fulfilling the legacy of Dale Earnhardt they are trying to make a Teresa legacy. Which will never happen.

Amazing, is anyone left that Dale Sr. hired? I feel for Mark and Martin… I hope they see the light before they waste to much time!

Mark Martin…How many drivers could be placed in the 8 car that wouldn’t be immediately booed at. How many sponsors could be placed on the 8 car that wouldn’t immediately be dislike. Think about it? As for why he’s willing to keep driving…he’s getting whatever he wants - $$$, schedule, keys to the shop. I personally don’t like him as a driver and wish he would honor his commitment to retire…please!
