Star drivers head to Washington to promote track plan

Plans to build a NASCAR track in New York City have moved to the back burner, but International Speedway Corp. officials still have high hopes to get a speedway approved in the Seattle area.
ISC is sending three NASCAR stars to Washington this week to meet with state and local officials in an effort to promote the project.
NASCAR legends Richard Petty and Darrell Waltrip will be there Wednesday and Thursday, along with Nextel Cup driver Greg Biffle, a Vancouver, Wash., native.
All of them are traveling to the West Coast anyway, because NASCAR races at California Speedway next weekend.
ISC owns 12 tracks that play host to Cup events, including Daytona International Speedway. ISC hopes to build a 1.2-mile oval, with 80,000 seats, in Kitsap County, southwest of Seattle across Puget Sound.
ISC has agreed to spend over $180 million for a project with an estimated cost of $380 million. Some Washington state officials are in favor of the plan, but ISC faces a stiff hurdle to convince local officials. ISC’s goal is to have the track completed by 2011. Grant Lynch, the president of ISC’s Talladega Superspeedway, is heading up the project. If state officials approve the deal, it’s likely ISC would move a Cup race from one of its existing tracks to the new facility.

does isc own pocono or california?? cuz if they do they should swap out one of those races for washington. those ones are boring as hell
I think it owns them both. They will prolly take away pocono.
roger penske owns california and pocono is family owned…i would like to see a 2nd darlington race again…i think they should just re-do north wilkesboro instead of building a new track, nascar needs to get back to their roots…
as a nascar fan since 1962, and a life time wa. resident I cant help but wonder why my tax money should by a track for muti millionares like the france family? pay for out out petty cash maybe?
