So far there are no takers. Even the Web site is temporarily down.

But team owner Doug Yates said he’s dedicated to running two cars in the Sprint Cup series this season even if it means going without sponsorship that is vital to the cash flow necessary to run all teams.

“We’re committed to running this team,” Yates said on Tuesday, the second day of testing at DIR. “Obviously, you have to see how the year plays out. But right now our intention is to run two cars and be competitive and show people we can do a good job for them.

“You have to have cash flow to run the business. We’re in the business of racing cars. We need some sponsorship and we intend to find them,” he said.

Let’s see. A former truck series champ that hasn’t done squat since and a nobody that upset the big dollar Busch teams in 2006 and hasn’t done squat since. Gee. I can’t believe THEY aren’t attracting sponsors!!!! First of all, Yates is in a rebuilding mode. Robert is gone. They are currently living off their past glory. From 1988 until 2002, the Yates group had sponsors tripping over each other to give them money. Then the drivers got old (Jarrett & Rudd). The winning wasn’t as often. Sadler didn’t do a lot for them as Rudd’s replacement either. The famous motors were breaking down. Quality sponsors started leaving. Then both drivers wanted and got their releases. Now Jarrett is basically retired and Sadler still isn’t doing squat. The 2 current drivers have some hurdles to clear and it ain’t easy. I really want to see that entire organization rise, but you need the right drivers to attract the right dollars.

That maybe true but you gotta have the right dollars to attract the right drivers I mean what big name driver would wanna go there now.

The owner first has to make a commitment to a driver. That as owner, he will do everything in his power to come through. Yates peed away the last few years by not keeping up with technological advances. The program went into decline because they thought it was still 1999. Even Petty wised up before Yates. A decent driver will usually attract a good sponsor and vice versa. This whole situation rests squarely on the shoulders of Robert and Doug. They created it by watching the parade pass them by.

Should someone tell Guest that Jarrett left Yates? Seems he is a
few years behind on who is driving at Yates…

Could someone tell HendrickFan to read the Guest comment before Lee’s? I know Jarrett left Yates. I already acknowledged that. DUH!! Jarrett claimed that Yates wasn’t the same and he thought that MWR going to Toyota was a historical moment in the sport he wanted to be a part of. Jarrett and MWR did far worse than Yates in 2007.
