Dale Earnhardt, JrOn FoxSports NASCAR pre-race from Dover, Jeff Hammond said sources tell him that Dale Earnhardt Jr, would sign with Joe Gibbs Racing and have sponsorship from VISA, with the announcement coming within the next 10-14 days.

We don’t have confirmation of this ourselves, so consider this another rumor.  Jeff Hammond is considered very credible, but is his source??

Sounds good.. VISA is a big company and it will help out Jr. alot! It would be a smart move I think.

  2. 2 Jayson

I highly doubt that. Jr. wouldn’t screw Budweiser over like that considering how loyal he
is to those who have helped him in the past(his sister is a prime example). I see him
goin to Ginn racin. I am so glad Fox is done after the rain out race tomorrow for this year
so I don’t have to hear the hypocrits(DW and hammond)

  3. 3 mike

    Never believe what Jeff says.
Him and DW is one of the reason why I hate the FOX broadcast of Nascar.

Jr has a bar in his basement that he made since it was empty. He made it one big bar, so him and his friends could drink all the bud they want to from the tap, and not have to worrie about driving home.

No budweiser on the car, no more free beer.

and with Coach not letting beer on his cars, Jr not going there.

  4. 4 Racedriven

From a huge Dale Jr fan:

I highly doubt this one too…but people have to remember that the Budweiser contract may not be with Dale Jr., but with DEI and that means that Dale Jr. has to find a new sponsor and new number as DEI is mostly not going to give him the #8.

I am now just waiting until Dale Jr and Kelley have signed the deal and call a press conference. Everything else is just rumors and that’s it.

  5. 5 michael

well my sources has told me the same thing, i work with nascar (offical nascar members club) and all of us have heard the same thing. and it looks like it might be true, but right now niether is gibbs, Jr. or nascar saying or confirming anything and since Jr. and Jeff Hammond are very good friends, he has been very reliable in his reporting in nascar.

  6. 6 Chris

I am waiting until i hear the words come out of Jr’s mouth to really start talking about where he is going.

But this doesn’t make sense because everyone has been talking about Gibb’s to move to Toyota, and im sure Jr wouldn’t like that.

We will all have to wait and see.

  7. 7 Metta

Well If Jr goes to gibbs I’m ok with that what I am not ok
with is the so called talk about gibbs nagotiating with
Toyota.. Jr already said he was sticken with Chevy.. I’m hoping
for ginn.. I really think those 2 are a match..

  8. 8 Nash

wait n see. jr has already mentioned how he won’t take extra $$$ to switch manufacturers,
i doubt he’ll switch from Bud.

  9. 9 michael

well the bitch has already found a driver for the #8 car which belongs to her, and yer all right why would he screw over Budwiser to take on another is because Bud has screwed nascar when they are pulling out of the busch commpitition next year, who knows, i do know this bud is not renewing thier contract next year for a major beer sponser and nascar wont be serving bud eaither, if thats the case

  10. 10 dre

i’m startin to think that Jeff’s source isn’t that reliable..
    http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/6881780

  11. 11 K-HOV

well we all know that tony stewart and dale jr. already
get along just fine. so why not have jr. move over to gibbs
to be smoke’s teammate now i think that would be cool and tony could give jr. alot of tips about wining a championship

  12. 12 Ray

nascar not serving bud is dumber statement then christians against christ! in one day at isc/americrown serves more bud/bud light then all other beverages ,period! i know i had to move the stuff. that would mean less $$$$ nascar wont do that, sorry.

  13. 13 RedDevil

Why do people think Jr. will do better in Ginn??? They are as bad as DEI as I seee it… look where Jr. is in points.. higher than any of the GIN cars.. so why do you think he’d do better with Ginn? Beats me.

  14. 14 Nash

Because a) Ginn is RACE FOCUSED. b) they’re gettin better c) he’s willing to spend money on the team!!

  15. 15 Andy

I really doubt he would. Besides, if the Toyota deal with Gibbs has a chance of going through, then Jr wont drive for Gibbs. And I seriously doubt he would drop Budweiser. I am not believing anything until Dale Jr himself says anything.

  16. 16 Mike

Its all rumors people. Gibbs to Toyota, Jr. to Gibbs. Its all rumors dont get to excited about it.

  17. 17 Breanna.

Oh please. Since when is Jeff Hammond reporting the latest news in
the rumor mill on international television god’s law on the matter?

When Jr says it, I’ll believe it.

  18. 18 Breanna.

RedDevil-Because Ginn is a brand new team that was leading the points
after the first two races before their driver TOOK RACES OFF. That’d
be why they’re not as high in the points anymore, and even with
races off they’re in the top 15. They have good drivers that would
be his teammates, and Mark Martin could teach him a lot. Matt Kenseth
was his protege of sorts, and he’s a champion. Ginn is moving forward,
DEI is not only coming to a halt, but Theresa’s actually doing work
for once and digging it’s grave. Well, no, maybe she hired somebody
from Sony to do it for her. Joe Gibbs already expects Jr to change
before he’s even signed which, in my opinion, is a foreshadowing of
the lack of personal freedom he’d have at that organization. Ginn
certainly has the money to dish out to bring his team to the top
because, sadly, that’s what it’s about anymore. And he has no problem
doing it because he wants to win races.

That’s why he’d be better at Ginn. Hope that doesn’t beat you.

  19. 19 Jayson

To be quite honest I wouldn’t want Mark Martin tryin to teach me how to drive, a guy that has that many race wins
and top 5’s without a championship? If he was more aggressive he would have his championship. Everything else
    spot on there Breanna

  20. 20 JuniorJunkie1960

From a source at Budweiser…..Bud’s is still under contract with DEI for 1 more year and we all know that bitch will never let them out of that to go with Jr. So, there is a good chance that VISA will be the sponsor for Jr.

  21. 21 James

JuniorJunkie1960 very good point there…it has been said a few times that Budweiser is contracted with DEI and NOT Jr. Therefore with the information given I truly do believe he will drive for gibbs next year with visa as a sponsor. I know for sure gibbs wont switch to toota next year because he wants to win, not struggle to stay in top 35 in owner points and struggle making races like Michael Waltrip.

  22. 22 Breanna.

Mm, I understand what you’re saying there, but I’ve just always held
the opinion I’d rather win as many races as possible and not give a
d__n about the championships. Again, that’s just my personal opinion.
And he could atleast teach him good racing techniques, regardless.
But I do understand your point.

  23. 23 anearnhardtfan8

Budweiser’s contract with DEI is up in 2008, but there is a loophole…. If JR is not driving the Budweiser car then, Bud does not have to stick to their contract with DEI. I doubt that Bud will let JR. get away, they don’t want to be the next Miller Light car with someone like Kurt Busch driving it, who does not sell. JR sells more merchandise than any other driver I would think(and hope) that Budweiser sees that and will not let him get away.

Another rumor though is that Goodwrench may be coming after JR.

  24. 24 Joe

Mark Martin never won a Championship because he was screwed over.

  25. 25 Jayson

please that was his teams fault, and he’s apart of the team

  26. 26 Breanna.

Oh geez, PLEASE don’t get into a debate over Mark Martin and his
championships or lack there of. Either way, he still won races so he
still has talent. And none of us were there, so there’s no point in
trying to figure out if Nascar screwed him backward over the pool
    table or not.

  27. 27 George Thomson

As far as Mark Martin never winning a championship look at the team he was with and everyone knows Ford has always been second rate just look at the results chevy has won more championships than any other car maker in nascar and by his own admission he is now driving the fastest cars he ever has so that should tell you what Roush was giving him (junk) enough said.

  28. 28 michael

Another rumor though is that Goodwrench may be coming after JR

oh please, dale has made it clear he will never drive his daddy,s car that is vooodoooo, and both sides have stated in person that they haven,t even started talking yet, and dont forget he only has a few days left to make a desision, so lets put this argument to rest lets see what happens in the next 10-14 days, if he dose move to gibbs racing team then god bless him thier, at least he will be happy but yet he would be consider a trader to budwiser, and his fans if he gose to ginn racing (god help us if he dose then so be it) but Jr. still has the money to and his own co. JR enterprises, which he said he would do if he has too, and some of you are right, he may very well take bud with him thier in 2008, but lets all see and just sit tight.

  29. 29 Greg Baker

Hmmmm didnt Gm Goodwrench leave the 29 because of GM’s financial situation. AC Delco left the busch series for the same reason. I honestly wonder if the move to Ginn would be a bad move. Last year everyone said Mark wouldnt run well and look almost every race is a top 10. Ginn stated that Marlin would prolly scale back and he would open the 14 up which isnt doing great in the points. I think alot of Ginns interest is in the 01 team, a team which has had the same crew chief for years and is a seasoned team. The 14 is basically is the old 10 team reskinned and has a team with less experience. Maybe if he can put some effort in that team hire someone who thinks like Jr so be it. On the Gibbs thing i really think its bad to leave Bud out like that, they have invested so much in dale jr and 8 years is a long time just to walk away. They say JJ is ok if he does well this year and i think the 18’s problem is the crew chief but it makes sence lol. Keep JJ start team #4 switch the 20’s owner points over unless denny wins the championship this year to the new dale jr team and tony or denny will have the champions provisional, makes sense to me Bobby Hamilton done it in 05 when he changed to 3 teams if i dont recall started last on the field and won the daytona truck race. Where ever he goes he needs to have POINTS or as poor of a qualifier JR can be he will truely be SCREWED

  30. 30 Greg Baker

Who ever takes on Dale jr better have his number unlisted. Crew chief, Owner, Semi Driver lmao. Remember in 05 with Rondeau as the crew chief, he got death threats for jr not running well. tony jr laughs at them so if Ginn takes on JR he better build a bigger fence around his mansion lmao.

  31. 31 Becca

I dont see Jr going with a Visa as a sponsor. HE IS LOYAL to his sponsors and cars and Most of his family. Budwiser and Dale Jr have worked together for a long time and I dont see them just giving that up so easily!

  32. 32 Nash

as for Jr driving the 3, he never said NEVER. he just said, not until the END of his career.

  33. 33 Cybil

    2 Words….NO WAY!

  34. 34 michael

for 1 Nash, yes thier was a statement on the hollywood hotel and speed that when Jr was interveiwed he was asked if he was to go to RCR would he take on his dad,s #3 ride, he stated (quote no i will not, that was my dads car and i truly beleave that his number should stay retired) and also
nascar president would never let that car back on the track, that car is a land mark, it,s part of history, and as of what greg stated gm did go bankrupt after his dad was killed, that was big news in nascar, 2nd of all
in my true beleaf i dont think he will sign with gibbs because thier joining forces with DEI on motors, and Jr, dosent want anythig to do with DEI anymore. and toyota joing gibbs, i cant see Jr driving a toyota, (lmfao)
dale jr is a chevy man. i think he will stay with his own team at Jr enterprises. and take it slowly, but in the near future, i think he will go to RCR because they have the big bucks like hendricks dose but they will have to work out he bugs first.

here is a quote that was just issued just a little while ago.

Gibbs neither confirms nor denies rumored Earnhardt Jr deal
Published June 4th, 2007 in NASCAR

PRN’s Steve Richard’s talked to Joe Gibbs Racing President J.D. Gibbs, who chose not to address specifically comments made by Fox TV’s Jeff Hammond during the rain delay at Dover that Dale Earnhardt Jr. would sign with JGR.

Gibbs chuckled, “Its news to me we’re getting our news from Jeff Hammond. We don’t have anything new to say than we said several weeks ago at Darlington (and that is) we’re going to give them time. Anyone would love to talk with him and see the possibilities but for us we’re just gonna give them their time and sort through how they need to do it, he and Kelley, and if the time is right great, if not we understand that too.”

Gibbs went onto say, “No sense really talking about it. It’s just speculation so it just fuels the fire. Right now let’s just focus on our three deals and let the rest lay where it may. Gibbs also confirmed they have no plans to expand their operation to four teams in 2008 but will aim to do so in 2009.

Richard’s also talked to Dale Earnhardt Jr. Media Relations Representative Jade Gurss who said this rumor is no different from the rest. “We hear three or four each weekend so it does us no good to deny every single fact or confirm…we’re just doing what we did before…we’re gonna keep our heads down and when Dale Jr is ready to decide he’ll let us all know together.”

As far as a set timetable Gurss doesn’t know of one. “I don’t know that it’s ever been in stone. The last I heard someone theorized because the merchandise people needed to get to working on the diecast they would like it to be done by the end of this month. My gut feeling is he and Kelley are going to make a decision on what’s right for them, not in a timeframe based on getting a diecast car to Daytona. He says he wants this to be the last move he makes so I don’t see them being pressured by that.”

  36. 36 Greg Baker

Well honestly none of us know lol. Only thing i can say is i hope Jr has owner points wherever he goes if not its goign to be a bad year. There just arent alot of teams out there that he could join with owner points, Childress none, gibbs might have with yeley leaving, Ginn might if marlin leaves but both the 13 and 14 are in danger of falling out any week now.

  37. 37 Nash

Jr has said both things about the 3. it IS documented that he said if it was offered to him, he might think about it at the end of his career, but not until then.

  38. 38 Jayson

Jr. doesn’t the same amount of balls drivin that his dad had, I have yet to see Jr. spin a driver out to win a
race. I have yet to see Jr. win a championship(he’s had at least 3 years of capable cars), and I especially
have yet to see Jr. manhandle a car to a win like his dad did countless times.

Am I attackin Jr here? no (he’s actually my #2), He’s one of the last drivers that can still bridge the gap between old and new. i’m attackin the idea of him EVER drivin the 3.
