UPDATE BELOW: NASCAR will not release findings on what the substance was

Michael WaltripWaltrip, who was docked 100 points, insists he doesn’t know who tampered with his fuel and said NASCAR still hasn’t told him what the substance was.

A person familiar with the investigation told The AP the substance was a property found in jet fuel; NASCAR said only it wasn’t jet fuel itself.

UPDATE…

Ty Norris, Michael Waltrip Racing’s general manager, says the NASCAR Nextel Cup organization is no closer to determining how an illegal substance was introduced into the fuel system of the car driven by team owner Michael Waltrip before qualifying for this year’s Daytona 500.

“We have asked as many questions as we can of our employees, in as many ways as we can. And we still don’t know [how it happened].

Hyder, Norris said, continues to maintain that he has no idea how the substance came to be in the car’s fuel system. And, he said, he has not been informed what that substance was, although NASCAR officials say they have closed their investigation and will not announce their findings.

“We feel it is in the best interest of the sport, and the competitors in the garage, that we move on,” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR’s vice president of competition. “It was an illegal substance, and it would serve no purpose to [clarify] what that substance was.”

Personally I feel as though Michael Waltrip should NOT be to blame and not be punished for his Jet Fuel being tampered with. He only drives the car, he doesnt add his own gas and he doesnt fill the gas tanks… Its not that im only standing up for him because im a fan because personally im not a fan of his. But I just dont see why its his fault.

    UPDATE : ADDITIVE RELEASED - JP5

The fuel additive was released, or more or less escaped the numerous confidientily agreements on the subject, and it is “JP5″. It is an anti-static, additive in Navy Jet Fuel, the anti-static properties is what kept it from being discovered in fuel can swab test performed regularly on the cars, new test will now be performed on all cars, tanks and gas cans.

Who ever thinks JP-5 is anti-static has no idea of what they speak. JP-5 is Jet fuel. Anti-static additives are added to Jet fuel. The current available anti-static additives would not be in a gel form. It had to be something else. Lubrizol has a new gel additive in patent pending . Maybe that is it But it isn’t JP-5. That is simply incorrect……………..
