Red Bull Racing Team announces Scott Speed, driver of the No. 2 Red Bull Toyota in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, to race a limited schedule in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in the No. 46 Morgan-Dollar Motorsports entry. Speed’s No. 46 will carry a Red Bull paint scheme for his NCTS debut at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 7, followed by a second NCTS race at Martinsville Speedway on March 28.
Speed will get additional seat time participating in the NCTS open test at Martinsville Speedway on March 12 – 13. Speed’s foray into NCTS racing is part of a development program aimed at getting the Red Bull driver ready for top-level competition in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Red Bull may consider additional opportunities for Speed as the 2008 season progresses. Scott Speed will continue his run for the championship racing full-time in the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series under the wing of Eddie Sharp Racing.

Scott Speed on Truckin’: “Every time I’m in the car I’m learning something. It’s a lot more helpful for me to drive the races because for me to get into a truck or Cup car and go fast by myself has been really easy. It’s been easier than I thought, to be honest. What’s difficult and what I’m learning a lot about is how the other cars around you affect your car. The reason we went this route is because the truck is the most similar to the COT and it is very sensitive to how the other cars around you, where they are and what they’re doing to your car. This is kind of the method behind our madness here.”

This stinks for Brandon Whitt, but I guess Money is now what you need to get a ride in NASCAR.
Hey wasn’t Champ Car like that for a few years before it finally died and forfeited to the IRL…? l0l
At least he and RBR are being smart and not rushing him to Cup like they did with Allmendinger. I still don’t get what the hell they were thinking with that move.
Honestly I don’t think AJ wants to be in NASCAR, but he is here because of Red Bull. When Red Bull started their stockcar stuff, they didn’t really have any racers to pull from in North America, as most of the Red Bull drivers are in Europe. They took Brian because he was free, but I think they looked at AJ and said, “If you want to continue to be a Red Bull Driver, then you are going to NASCAR because American Open-Wheel Racing is a waste of money”
I think AJ really wanted to stay in CCWS, but American Open-Wheel racing is in the same boat as NASCAR is right now as far as if you don’t bring a sponsor you’re not gonna drive. And there are really no companies looking to get into Motorsports, so i think he was kinda forced to come, or drop out of racing.
If you look, really what drivers did they have in America before last year? A drift driver or two, a few off-road drivers, a few sports car drivers, and a few open-wheel guys, with AJ being the most successful out of the open-wheel guys. Now they weren’t gonna pull a driver from their Drift or Off-Road lineup because those are the two fastest growing forms of Motorsports in America, Sports car racing is steadily growing too, while American Open-Wheel Racing was dieing.
Who is Scoyy Speed? Is he Lake Speed’s son ?
He is not his son, but they may be related (Speed isn’t really a common name). Scott was a F1& European open wheel driver for Red Bull, and that didn’t really work out for him, so he came back to the states (he’s from California) and he is now driving for Red Bull in ARCA, and the CTS series.
