NASCAR Cup Champion Rusty Wallace talks about the challenges in getting around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
“Indianapolis is such a long flat racetrack and the coil bind setup is really important. Basically, it’s the guy who gets the nose of the car as low as he can on the racetrack for the longest amount of time. Indy is so aerodynamically important and lets the car turn better in the center of the corners. If you don’t turn well, you’ll get outrun.”
“It’s tough to make it stick to the ground. You turn the wheel and the front end slides and you can’t pass anyone. It’s the toughest racetrack to make a car handle, because there’s no banking and you’re running so fast trying to get the car to handle in the corners.”
