UPDATE 2:
NASCAR iron man Ricky Rudd, who made his 900th career Cup Series start Sunday at California Speedway, separated his left shoulder and was briefly knocked unconscious in a wicked wreck during the Sharp Aquos 500, the veteran driver told ESPN.com Monday.
“It knocked me out for just a little bit, but not real bad,” Rudd said. “It was one of those deals that sort of stunned me. It happened so quick I’m not sure what happened, but I was out for just a second.”
The shoulder is the major concern, and leaves Rudd concerned about his status for next weekend’s Chevy Rock ‘n Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway. He said he wouldn’t grade his chances of competing as very high, which is significant, considering Rudd once taped his eyelids open with duct tape so he could race.
“If you try to raise your arm at all, you can’t do it,” he said. “It just takes your breath.”
Monday morning, Rudd was waiting to have an MRI by Carolina Panthers team doctors to determine the extent of the shoulder separation.

Man what a weekend at California Speedway.
3 Hard hits from Keselowski, Waltrip, and Rudd.
Glad their all alright.
I think these were some of the most exciting California races
I’ve seen. Good weekend.
“Early re-retirement here I come!”
i thought the ems was slow to react, especially in mikeys wreck. it was like they just were watching him try to get out, while the car burned. like hmmmmmmmmm..wonder how long it will taketo turn him into a sisk-a-bob! that was a dangerous situation to be standing there holding a extinguisher and not using it. was glad brad was not seriously injured, could have been so easily a much worse situation, and glad rudd seem to be on the mend also. i think this race track as far as danger needs to be up there with daytona and talledega.
California is usually a boring track to watch
but the two races i watched this weekend were both really good. Not because of the wrecks but because of the racing, they were all over the track this weekend which was awesome. 4 Wide at some points with Tony Stewart. Glad to see that the 3 major wreckers came out of their cars okay. And even more glad to see JIMMIE JOHNSON WIN WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
i was there great California weekend Carl Edwards rules
Good job nascar with the soft walls.
Now mandate that they be all the way around the track on the inside and outside retaining walls instead of just the corners.
and mandate the roof hatch in the COT while you still can!!!!
Yes the EMS was EXTREMELY slow with Michael Waltrip.
They stood there like they didn’t know where to start.
And then the guy with the fire extinguisher went around back
instead of where Mikey was. Terrible.
I hope they will all recover soon.
THAT RACE WAS MIRE EXCITING THEN BRISTOL WAS THIS YEAR. GET WELL RICKY. YOU ARE IN OUR PRAYERS
