Jack RoushFord team-owner Jack Roush will use B.F. Goodrich and/or Hoosier tires to test his Car of Tomorrow fleet on non-Nextel Cup tracks in coming months. The team owner believes Roush Fenway Racing is slightly behind rivals that are skirting the spirit of NASCAR’s testing policies. By rule, Cup teams are limited to a handful of closely-monitored official tests. Teams must test together at the same Cup venue, and on Goodyear Eagles. But several organizations have gotten around that limit by using Goodrich and/or Hoosiers for unofficial testing at outside tracks.

“NASCAR wanted to start everybody in the Car of Tomorrow on an even basis, with [the same] four or five tests,” Roush said at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. “Well, the teams that have been successful, the Hendrick organization, the Gibbs organization and the Childress organization, have tested their cars multiple times a week. They’ve gone to tracks outside NASCAR’s control with tires that were not from Goodyear. Right now, Goodyear is sitting on millions of dollars worth of tires that are growing obsolete and hard in their warehouses. Teams have gotten around NASCAR’s policy by buying other people’s tires and testing at tracks that aren’t on the Nextel Cup schedule. I got behind on that; I didn’t do that. But two weeks ago I hired six people and dedicated a tractor-trailer, and I’ve gone public. “OK, I’m getting in the testing game, too.” If you don’t want us to test, have us sign something in the application. Something that says, “We agree we won’t test with Goodyears or anybody else’s tires, except for the tracks that NASCAR approves.” But they didn’t do that; they left the door open and we got behind, but we’re going to catch up.”

Strictly speaking, there’s nothing illegal about what the Hendrick, Gibbs and Childress teams are doing. Jeff Gordon, who’s won two CoT races, teammate Jimmie Johnson has won two and Kyle Busch the other, said Hendrick Motorsports shouldn’t apologize for its CoT success. “If the Roush teams aren’t doing that, then that’s their mistake,” the series points-leader said. “We’re doing everything we can to be competitive and we’re not doing anything wrong. It’s definitely playing a role in helping us get to where we are.”

I think what their doing is messed up. NASCAR wants everyone to have an een playing field, but the top Chevy teams are messing it up. Yes there is nothing in the rules, but I think NASCAR should go in and stop this. Smaller teams arent able to do this with limited budgets.

This is nothing new at all…

Jack Roush is a hypocrite. He just bashed Chevy for going against Goodyear and now he is doing it himself.

  4. 4 Jarrod

The proof is in the pudding. Money buys speed.. I don’t care how
NASCAR tries to limit the teams, the deepest pockets will always
come out on top. Yes you will have your ocassional small budget
team win once and a while. But the bottom line will always be money
and lots of it. So go ahead Roush and spend it like you know how to.

im not sure if jack is a hypocrite or not he bashed hendrick cause he thought the testing was against NASCAR policy now that he knows its not why not join in on testing

how messed up would it be if NASCAR now says it is illegal?

  6. 6 Nascarfan4life24

He can spend all he wants and do all he wants, but he still ain’t going to keep up with the Hengrick chevy’s. So go ahead and spend spend spend!! Fords suck and just might as well accept it!!!!

  7. 7 Andy

True.. however I would say Roush opened his mouth too early. He criticized the Chevy teams before looking into the situation and made them look bad. But now that he knows it was legal he just made himself look bad and seem more hypocritical.

And yes Nascarfan4, I wouldn’t agree that Fords in particular suck, however, in my opinion, Roush is losing his touch especially in the COT.

Chevy has defenetly got it dialed in.

If Jack and Geoff weren’t so busy kissing their new partners asses and planning “events”, they could’ve done this months ago and Hendrick wouldn’t have been so dominant and Kenseth wouldn’t be their (Roush’s) only winning driver. Quit hitting the snooze button Jack.

  9. 9 Chris

    Roush needs to give up.

    Hes old.
He lost anything and everything that was going for him.
    He supports and races ford.

    Enough said.

I love how yall bash Fords. Why is Ford so “crappy” as you say? It isn’t it is just that there are more Chevy teams and almost every Chevy runs the same engine, Hendrick. This gives Chevy the chance to be more dominant because they get tons of information and make their engines even better. If there was more Fords than Chevys and every Ford ran the same engine then Fords would be dominant.

And how is he a hypocrite? He thought that it was against the rules and feels that it should be against the rules. If it aint against the rules then do what the old saying goes “If you can’t beat ‘um join ‘um”.

  11. 11 Axel Foley

He knew it wasn’t against NASCAR policy… In his statement he said the teams were skirting NASCAR’s policy… He was just too lazy or uninvolved in his team to do it also.

He looks like such an idiot criticizing the other teams and now doing the same thing he bashed them for… Could this be a sign that Mark was really the brain of Roush?

  12. 12 Justin

Hell , Jack should right ARCA on all his cars and go test them anywhere he wants , anytime he wants. Then tell Nascar its none of your business. Then everyone would cry he was cheating. I like how all the Ford haters are talking big right now. 2 years ago Childress cars were fillers in the race and only Gordon and Johnson were the only cars doing anything from Hendrick. and Roush cars were ALL up front almost every race. Last year Evernham was winning , and this year they are in midpack. So run your mouths , this thing changes everytime you turn around. Thats why I’m not in to bragging when my drivers do good , cause it doesnt last forever.

  13. 13 force_fordRFR

To Justin…I love the ARCA bit, that’s funny. However, knowing how much NASCAR hates Jack, they may just fine him some ungodly amount of money and suspend the team. If we really want to talk about hypocrites, lets talk about Brian France and Mike Helton. The only thing that seems very clear, is that if the Hendrick team is on top than everything is fine! If they are not leading a race or doing well…then “oh no!” something has to be done…lets limit the teams to four cars (that’s not an obvious attack on Jack). The fact of the matter is that Jack has always stood up for himself and his team, NASCAR hates that! BTW No, Mark was not the brains at RoushFenwayRacing! Jack built the team from the ground up, Mark helped him propel it to stardum….but it was Jack’s intuative nature that lead him to Mark, he gave Mark his start knowing that it was the right move! The bottom line is that Jack is very dedicated to the team, he’s there at every race. And even though they are struggling at the moment, any driver would still drop everything to join RoushFenwayRacing. Oh yeah in case it was not clear, Justin I agree with you completely.

  14. 14 Nascarfan4life24

Fords suck people! Get over it!!!

  15. 15 Ryan

nascarfan your a bull headed person. Seriously. Tell me 10 reasons why Ford sucks? I bet you can’t do it.

And yeah Justin you are right.

And I loved how NASCAR bull crapped Mark at the Daytona 500. If it was Jeff or Jimmy getting passed by Harvick they would have thrown the yellow the second the first person got turned around.

  16. 16 Justin

Dont look now 4life24 , but your boy got to nascar driving a Ford. Therefore he must suck al;so/

  17. 17 Breanna Crooker

hahaha Justin, you’re right;; I’d forgotten about that. Wonder how
he’s gonna respond to that one without appearing more idiotic?

Jack Roush is a major hypocrite. He even admitted that they were
bending the rules to their advantage, so obviously he knew it wasn’t
strictly against policy. Hypocrisy is near the top of my “things I
hate” list, so I guess Roush just moved up the list as well.

Damn, between Roush being a hypocrite and Hendrick being, well,
Hendrick-and the drivers he has in his stable-the big guns in Nascar
    are just ruining it, eh?

  18. 18 Nascarfan4life24

when was the last time ford dominated nascar? Jeff may have started his career in a ford but guess what? It didn’t get him any where till he got his ride in a Hendrick chevy. He wouldn’t have had the success in a ford that he’s had in a chevy. I have personally experience with fords. Most of my family drive fords so of course when I turned 16 my first car was a ford. I have had nothing but problems with every ford I have ever owned. I no longer will buy or drive a ford. So you want 10 reason’s why ford suck huh?

    1. Found On Road dead
    2. Fix Or Repair Daily

    4. Found On Reservation Dump
    5. Fast. Only Rolling Downhill
    6. I’d rather drive my Silverado than push your ford.
    7. Driver Returns On Foot
    8. They’re frickin expensive to fix
    9. I have been left stranded more in a Ford than any other rig.
    10. Chevy has the Corvette, Ford doesn’t!!!

  19. 19 Breanna.

Didn’t get him anywhere? What part of he got to Nascar in a Ford don’t
you get? Personally I think working up through the ranks and getting
noticed enough to get IN Nascar is a bigger sense of fulfillment and
    accomplishment.

Ever consider you just don’t know how to handle your vehicles? And
your “reasons” are mostly just stupid phrases that other people came up
with. Chevy has the Corvette, Ford has the Mustang. Both two of the
highest-selling vehicles of all time. That balances out.

  20. 20 Nascarfan4life24

the ford mustang? yea its a nice car, but it’s no where near what the Corvette is.

  21. 21 Nascarfan4life24

How many races did Jeff Gordon win in a ford? 0!!!! so yes the manufacturer has alot to do with success!!! And you can’t compare the Corvette to the mustang. A base model mustang cost under 20,000.00 you can’t find a base model corvette for under 40,000.00 so how does the mustang balance out with the corvette?

  22. 22 Lee88-20

Im a chevy guy as far as racing goes but if I were going to buy a truck it would be a ford they make the best trucks on the road.and I love vettes but the reason they cost so much more than the stang is because they dont make as many.
