Jack RoushLast weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Jack Roush again took the opportunity to slam NASCAR’s new Car Of Tomorrow, saying it is far too restrictive.

“I would have a rule book that said you come to the race track at the assigned time, you have four tires and you burn gasoline,” said Roush. “That would be about all I would require.”

“I would pretty much `Run What You Brung,’ but NASCAR is determined to have this thing where it’s convenient for them to regulate it and officiate it even-handedly and fairly. To that end, they make every effort to take the racing out of all but just a few things.

“If you look at a handful of drivers like the Roush organization has, one guy is really nervous when the car is loose…while other guys say, ‘I don’t care if it’s loose, just get me all the downforce that you can,’” said Roush. “The Car of Tomorrow is going to have an aero variance that’s much, much less than it is today, and there’s going to be a lot of people that won’t be able to drive those cars. Today, they can compensate or adjust the aero-match on the car to suit the preference of the driver.”

Instead of lowering the cost of racing, Roush said the COT will actually increase the cost of competition, since money-is-no-object owners like himself will spend whatever is necessary to get an advantage. “It’s forcing us to spend money on technology that we would rather not have to spend, in order to find an edge and suit the needs of the driver,” he said.

couldn’t have said it better. cup is iroc. too bad martin isn’t sticking around for a full ride… ’cause he’d be champ!

i think they should go back to the old way of NASCAR, taking a real car and modifying it for racing or at least put a body on the car that is similar to the model sold for the streat.

I have lost all faith in NASCAR. The cars aren’t real, the drivers aren’t true drivers, dispite I have been a NASCAR fan since I was a child. The real test of racing is in the ALMS and DTM series, and I must say, a lot more fun to watch. I do agree… NASCAR is IROC.

I agree completely with NASCAR becoming IROC. Jack Roush’s opinion shouldn’t be taken lightly by NASCAR. They should take it as the opinion of the majority of the drivers, car owners, and anyone else involved in/with NASCAR and re-adjust the COT or just remove it all together.

The fans can’t stand it and we aren’t even the ones DRIVING the things!

NASCAR? Really what is NASCAR today? I can tell you what it is, advertising. Every 7 minutes of broadcast you watch we have to have a damn 3 and a half minute comercial. And the racing? I cant beleave they took bumpdrafting away, and everything there. NASCAR - National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing. But we now go to Mexico, and Canada next year? And now we have TOYOTA! The name needs to change if this is to be, and I beleave its a MONOPOLY. Why doesnt Nascar change to fit drivers and veiwers? Its because there are no principles of supply and demand, there is no competition. All the major tracks are owned basically by one corporation, and no other races can take place. I hate to say it, but I think Nascar is going to evetnually win, if nothing is done now. Recently I saw that Brian France had a dui, but wasnt charged or veiwed. I think we need a new series. STOCKCAR - a series all on tracks now competed on with more Superspeedways and short tracks. No rear spoiler rules, no “templates” They should use the same fuel as in a passenger care, and run a set of provided tires. End of rules. Cars nee dto be built liek a ank so you can actually race and rub on somebody. Nowadays this car may be faster than another by .01 mph, but he cant pass him due to al lthe aero restrictions and regs. How wouldve the old man done it? Hed rubbed him raw and pushed him out of the way. Thats how its done. I am going to register the name STOCKCAR, and this shit should get done. If you arent the only who feels this way, email me or visit my site, Who should be running the race events anyway? The rich playboys who dont know the differnece between glow plugs and spark plugs, or the veiwers who have the demand?

I think we should all make a new race series…an actual stock car series where people can bring the cars they drove to the track and race them like it was in the 50’s in nascar. It would have 3 series just like nascar… 4 cylinder vehicles in what would be like the truck series. V6 vehicles in what would be like the busch series. and V8 vehicles in what would be like the nextel cup series. there would be no modified cars allowed in any series. Race what you bought straight from the dealers. I know i would be racing my little 4 cylinder pontiac and having a blast. who knows we might even see some nascar drivers in this series if it ever gets made. I would like to make this a reality so anyone who can help please e-mail me at iluvfoosh@yahoo.com thanks. nascar is controlled by sponsors thats why we have the car of tomorrow or as i call it car that looks like shit!

  9. 9 Brian

Brian France is in danger of destroying this style of racing just because he wants to leave his own mark on the sport. I think the guy has a huge ego that will eventually backfire on him. Ever since he took over he’s been looking at changing anything and everything he can. I don’t like the direction Nascar is going and it sounds like I’m not the only one.

I really dont understand why they’re using the COT. I mean, most of the drivers dont even like it. I know its supposed to be safer, but its gonna screw everyone up. It’s going downhill…every year NASCAR has fewer and fewer viewers. I dont like the direction its going. Pretty soon there will be no NASCAR. I agree with Roush on this one.

Jacob, why do you care if Toyota is in NASCAR. Jaguar actually won a race in NASCAR a while back. I believe it was in the 50’s. Also Toyota employees more people in America then Ford motor corp. or GM. Also here are some facts. Toyota Camry=Built in Kentucky. Ford Taurus=Built in Mexico. Toyota Tundra=Built in Texas. Ford F-Series=50% built in America,50% built in Canada. That is why Toyota is coming to NASCAR. Because they deserve to be here. And back to the topic. The Car Of Tomorrow suck. ’nuff said

NASCAR has changed with the newer generation. In my eyes, its still Winston Cup. Old school racing here, but I still watch every sunday and go to the track when I can. I cant help it, I love racing! Next year will be odd though, not many of the old guys left. Mark Martin will be missed.
