Jack RoushIn 2010, Roush Fenway Racing will have to shrink from five cars to four, but Jack Roush already has a plan in mind: Sell the fifth car to a group of investors as what he called “seed corn” for an investor-controlled four-car team owned and funded by a group outside of Roush but fueled with Roush crews and technology.

“It shouldn’t go without notice that we are unabated in our effort to find and identify new drivers and to build our crews and teams with outsiders to the extent that we can and advance them through the programs as they get experience,” Roush said. “We’re on a track to be able to help somebody come in and provide the technology and the manpower to get them started.”

the cat in the hat is ploting all ready. look out we could have up to 8 roush teams. it mite not be his money but his people and cars. sound like he found a way to keep all of his eggs in one basket and will have room for more.

So what this boils down to is that Roush will technically have 8 teams and will take up 20% of the field assuming all 8 cars get in.

This 4-team rule is the biggest factor in my growing dislike for NASCAR. Kyle Petty was dead-on about his observation about the rule. No one cared about how many cars an owner could have until NASCAR mandated a 4-team limit.

43-car field divided by 4-car team owners = 10+ owners. Now Roush found a loophole to exploit where he can own 2 4-car teams and opened that floodgate for everyone else.

My prediction for 5 years: GM teams will be controlled in some manner by Hendrick. Ford teams controlled in some manner by Roush. Dodge will be out. Toyota will be controlled by the Penske/JGR merger.
