According to Roush Fenway President Geoff Smith, Edwards will be able to drive in this weekend’s races, including the Nextel Cup event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Busch Series race at O’Reilly Raceway Park.
Edwards is the points leader in the Busch Series and is fifth in the Cup standings.
Edwards was involved in a dirt-track accident during a Late Model race Sunday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. According to a team news release, Edwards was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in West Omaha for precautionary X-rays and a preliminary examination. The early diagnosis for Edwards was a dislocated right thumb, and he was released the next day.

Good, I’m glad to see he’s toughing it out.
I figured it would have to be a lot more than a sore thumb to make him miss the Cup race, but I thought with such a gigantic cushion in the Busch standings that he might skip that race to put as little stress on it as possible… Got to be a little harder to shift with a dislocated thumb!
He’ll race…ice it down for 4 days…have a special brace made…whatever.
He’ll be out there.
carl is tough.. it would take a lot more than a dislocated thumb to keep him out of a race… GOOOOOOOOOOO Carl…
