Ray EvernhamTeam Owner Ray Evernham disclosed Thursday, is that robots are part of the team’s car-building future. NASCAR’s ultra-strict chassis rules involving its Car of Tomorrow, which will debut in March at Bristol, Tenn., make it possible for robots to perform welding and similar duties in the chassis-building process.

That, Evernham said, will free humans up to fine-tune other areas of the car.

Personally I don’t like it, but with the specs these cars have to be built with,I can see why. Ray’s a driver, builder, and owner all in one. He knows whats best for the team.Bots can do the same thing a million times and never make a mistake, but they can’t tell a wrench from a winch…. Good luck Ray!!

Ahhh, it was only a matter of time - these teams are churning out too many cars for it not to become viable.

Obviously the initial cost is going to be frightening, but I can see this becoming the norm in the future. Either they ban it, or everyone will have to eventually invest in it. Aside from cost, I can see no detrimental benefits to the series.
