Ricky Carmichael Could Race for Gibbs in NASCAR
Quote selected text Published July 24th, 2006 in NASCAR NewsIf Motocross racer Ricky Carmichael wants to give NASCAR a try, Joe Gibbs Racing will find a seat for him. J.D. Gibbs said Sunday the team has had preliminary discussions with Carmichael, who many consider the greatest motocross racer of all time.
“We’re just talking to him, like a “Hey, if it ever comes up and you are interested in doing something, let’s brainstorm,’ ” Gibbs said.
Both Gibbs and his brother, Coy, are huge motocross fans and have followed the 26-year-old Carmichael’s career. He holds the all-time record for wins and championships in AMA competition, and has never lost an outdoor competition. He’s expected to make the 2007 season his final one in Motocross, and Gibbs said he didn’t think it would take him long to adjust to stock-cars if Carmichael wanted to give them a try.
“I think Ricky would be on a super quick learning curve, it’s just a matter of what he wants to do,” Gibbs said. “But we’d love to sit down and maybe work something out with him in the future. But for now, we’re just excited about what he represents, the fans that he has and maybe in bringing him over here - I really think he would love running this stuff.”

Ricky in NASCAR?? that wood roooock! Id love to see him take on the boys in the sedans…bring it Ricky…do it.
What next? Ryan Seacrest to NASCAR? He’d have an accelerated learning curve because he has plenty of experience with hosting several American Idols! How stupid.
The whole MX to Cup started with Bubba Stewart. What a joke, there are plenty of good drivers that dream of making it to NASCAR. Why take those oppurtunities away just to fill a pipe-dream of drawing crossover fans because of a NAME..
It might be an interesting thing to see. I mean Ricky Carmichael in a stock car it’s just not workin for me. Do you really think that he would be able to run at 200MPH down the backstretch at Talledega hahahahaha I don’t think so.
Hahaha! This has to be funnier than Juan Pablo Montoya coming to NASCAR. Sure i can understand why Montoya is coming to NASCAR… he races. But a dirt-biker coming into NASCAR? Please.
My ex-boyfriend is a really well-known NETRA champ, and semi-pro GNCC rider… If he had ever given me a call one day and told me he was going to race in NASCAR or was even CONTEMPLATING the idea… I would laugh in his face.
Two-tires to four?
Have fun, Ricky.
