Jeff BurtonUPDATED:

Jeff Burton grabbed Richard Childress Racing teammate Clint Bowyer by the arm and engaged in what appeared to be a heated conversation moments after the conclusion of the Daytona 500.

Burton admitted they were mad but wouldn’t say why.

A team official said it was because each driver, who led over the last 20 laps, felt he didn’t get enough help from the other.

“I think everybody thought I was mad at Clint like Clint did something to me that I thought he shouldn’t have done, but that was the furthest from the case,” Burton said before Friday’s Sprint Cup practice in California. “I never felt Clint did anything to negatively affect my race.

“I think we were both frustrated. I’m sitting there leading the Daytona 500 with three to go. He’s leading it with [16] to go. Clint had a good car and I finished 13th and he finished [24th],” Burton said.

If Bowyer was mad at anybody it should have been Juan Pablo Montoya, who spun him out of the lead with 16 to go. But Bowyer never confronted Montoya and has no plans to.

Shortly after the finish of Sunday’s Daytona 500, SPEEDTV’s cameras spotted Richard Childress Racing drivers Jeff Burton and Clint Bowyer in a heated exchange in the garage area, and it appeared that Burton was repeatedly grabbing and pushing Bowyer as he was trying to walk away.

Sources say that Burton was extremely upset that Bowyer was not drafting with him at the end of the race although we have yet to confirm this.

It’s likely just tempers flaring after a frustrating race for many of the drivers and we think it will blow over, if not already.

Wow! This is extremely unusual. Jeff Burton does not blow up at people on a whim. Hopefully, this has been taken care of.

This surprizes me too, i wouldn’t expect Burton to act like this, I guess thats what the Daytona 500 does to you.

Burton? Angry blow-up? Wow! That’s a new one. You never hear of him losing his cool, much less “grabbing” people.

I guess Burton needed to vent on somebody after being totally punked on that last restart. If I’m remembering correctly Bowyer was nowhere near Burton as he was falling back like a rock at the end. What’s he gonna do, give him a push from 10 cars back?

Itis nice to see everyone being themselves. With NASCAR saying they will lighten up this year… there is no telling what we’ll see!

  6. 6 Sam

Yeah, this is a surprise to me as well.

  7. 7 craig

I think Burton just needed to Vent, and Bowyer was the first one around when Jeff got out of the car. I don’t think there will be any hard feelings about this, but I fully expect ESPN, and FOX/SPEED to blow this way out of the water and make it into some kind of feud that its not.

wow! jeff burton doing this, thats insane cause it takes a heck of alot to get him to be mad like that. Bowyer was not even close to help burton thanks to J.P.M. spining him out. hope fully things will calm down between them.

This is really a shock to me as well. Especially since bowyer got taken out by that dip stick montoya. Why does he even still have a race license? I mean has he gone 1 race without wrecking someone? Im starting to think his goal in nascar is to wreck people rather than win

  12. 12 Andrew

Yea I saw that on NASCAR victory lane
Not really suprising as Bowyer did dump Burton
in the final 10 laps sometime, cant remember exactly when.
    It is what it is

Pretty cool. Old time NASCAR. Wanna bet that if they dusted up on camera the Auto Club 500 would have sold some more seats?

Notice he didn’t go after Harvick. I can’t see why he’s so mad. Burton was in position to be hung out to dry by himself. We gotta find out the facts. And I think because Montoya has fenders, he’s using them.

That’s what they are there for… Heck Earnhardt did, Smoke, Harvick, Kyle Busch, and a few other do the same thing

First off your the only one bringing up the race card j/a and secondly Montoya may have been an ace in open wheel but so far in stock cars all he has done is wreck race cars and when Big E wrecked ya it was for the win and not because he didnt have the talent to pass you as in the case with Montoya

Does anyone have a youtube video of this…. I dont belive it till I see it… Thanks guys

Doesn’t surprise me on bit. I’m sure Burton is jealous of Clint. Jeff Burton has come a long way over the past few years but I can remember his blasting someone like Carl Long (can’t remember exactly who it was) in an interview saying that he was a nobody, never has been or never would be anybody… It was a road race where they tangled. Jeff was driving for Jack Roush at that time.. He reminds me of Craven. It’s all about HIM !! GO CLINT !!!!!!
