Rain puts Sprint Cup, Nationwide races in doubt for Sunday-UPDATE 8

UPDATE 8:
NASCAR has finally postponed the Sprint Cup race until 1:00PM EST Monday. The Nationwide race will follow.

Still haven’t restarted. NASCAR is saying 2:00AM EST now.
Honestly, we’re puzzled by what exactly NASCAR is doing.

UPDATE 6:
Rain has moved out of the area and NASCAR intends to restart the race tonight at roughly 1:00AM EST. They will also run the entire race distance.

After going green for several laps, they have thrown the yellow due to more rain falling.

The race has been red flagged. The track continues to seep water from underneath to the surface (called weepers) and they are trying to dry it.

UPDATE 2:
Some light rain has started falling again in some areas of the speedway as of 4:10PM EST but they are trying to get the track dry and are hoping to get a 6:00PM EST start.

UPDATE:
Rain is still falling at California Speedway as of 2:00PM EST but NASCAR still hopes to get the race in if the rain lets up. The track has lights so there is still a chance.

Rain is expected throughout the day in Southern California on Sunday and could force NASCAR to postpone both the scheduled California Sprint Cup race as well as the Nationwide race which has already been rescheduled from Saturday evening from rainfall as well.

Friday was 20% chance of rain, and the day was mostly rained out
Saturday was 10% chance of rain, and the day was mostly rained out
Today is an 80% chance of rain, I think they races are gonna get rained out.
At least JR won’t lose if it gets rained out.

Truex1fan you and Mas should pay attention to statistics JR has a better win/lose ratio on monday races than any other driver.
it doesnt matter vegas is a stones throw away and besides im starting to like this mini bar in my room , the slim jims are going fast.

I just wish that they would get rid of this race for good.California sucks.They gave cali a race and took away a track that had real racing,and real history.California Speedway is a joke.
i live in california about 3 hrs or so from fontana and from where im at its cloudy with breaks of sun…the wind is sure is blowing.
well NASCAR made a bad move by starting this race with the track still seaping water…cause 2 accidents that could have been avoided and 3 big name drivers are out of contention for the win and its none of their doing…thanks a lot NASCAR seriously….you should have grinded slots in the track b4 you start this crap…and since it was your fault…you should have allowed the teams to work under the red flag to repair the damage you caused…congratulations…on to LVMS i guessâ™
NASCAR talked with the drivers before the race, and the drivers all gave the ok that they were ready to go.
Also a lot of it appears to have to do with the crappy way the track was paved. Almost every other race track has the seams overlapped and blended, but this track doesn’t, so when the cars go around the pressure/force/vibrations force the underlying water up through the cracks.
But then again if they built the track right this would be a non-issue, so therefore blame lies in Roger Penske…..
Ugh what a long night. the simpsons is almost over and im sure we will get the official word that monday will be the day…. . . . . .if its not raining
im not a big kyle busch fan but he sure can drive the heck out this race car.
Well it is no longer raining and they are drying the track, and that last little burst of rain was all that was on the radar, so they should be good.
And another thing to remember, although its 10pm here on the east coast (maybe different where y’all are), its only 7pm at the track, so they still got another 5 hours of Sunday left.
So my best guess is they go racing at 11pm EST (8pm track time) and they finish around 1230am EST ( 930 track time) and the Nationwide race starts at about 130am EST (1030 track time)
So while it may be late for some of us, its early for others (especially the fans in Hawaii). But just think about the fans in England where it is 3am Monday already…. l0l
wimps. they should just race in the rain like any other series. even on ovals. that’d show who the top drivers really are.
Just start it tomorrow NASCRAP….
Malcom name one oval series that races in the rain besides Enduro/Demo cars? Heck Drag racers don’t even race in the rain and they only race for 3 seconds at a time and thats in a straight line…. l0l
And Dale Dodge Jr (if that is your real name) SPAMMING is the perfect way to get people to notice you, but its also the perfect way to get people to not help you at all with your young racing career.

Would it still air on fox? Cause right now fox has seinfeld on here, its 10:23 p.m. here, so its only 7:23 in cali… hope they race soon, I have to get up early in the am.

Interesting, they’re gonna try to restart this thing at around midnight eastern time. I’m sure nobody is happy about that decision.
Well a lot of the East coast and even central timezone fans may not be that happy, but remember to the drivers and all the east coast fans thats only 9pm track time.
Id say it will be on either fox or fx. But all I want is to hear those cars going by at 205mph

I just found out it’ll be on fox! As soon as they start racing they will break into the already running program! yay!

Does NASCAR realize that probably 80% of their fans are on the east coast? Meaning…. it’s 2 freakin’ AM in the morning over here, and it’s a MONDAY and people have to wake up early for WORK.
NASCAR as a sanctioning body isn’t very smart with their decisions.
Man I was all like “ehh 1am ain’t that late”, and then BAM 2am…. l0l So what the race starts at 2am, has more then 50% of the race to finish, so thats at least 2 hours of racing, and then Victory Lane comes on right after the race (just saw a crawl on SPEED that its still on).
I wonder if the little Gopher is still awake….. And if he has a name yet…. l0l
U have to love the Nascar Nation staying true and waiting out this long long long delay. Im proud to be on this sight and see everyone whos still up w me ready for some racing no matter what time it may be!!!! Lets go racing boys

hey help me out here.. i took longer than i thought at the gas station… as i ran out of gas a mile away from the gas station.. ran all the way to the gas station to get a can of gas, some nice lady gave me a ride back to my car. Got the car to the station, filled the rest of the way up, got my food and drinks. Got back home and no nascar..

NASCAR.com says 2am, well 11pm for those of us on the West Coast, but I see you all already know that… Are you fricking kidding me? I’d like to say I could just Tivo it and watch it tomorrow (of course a manual record), but really, I’ll just get online at work and ruin the “surprise”. I can’t handle the suspense…Race tonight, race tomorrow, either way work becomes a factor… grrr
I agree with you dj I never use to like Kyle but he’s really seemed to turn around and he’s actually likable now. I think it’s great!
I agree that Kyle was pretty darn funny tonight.
Another surprising tidbit about KyBuch today… His interviews actually make me laugh. He can be pretty funny…
I hope the race is tonight because ill be at my tech school tomorrow during the afternoon.. Either way, its going to be a good race.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a “under the lights” race this early in the season.
He’s let his personality come out..some take it as obnoxious or stuck up, but it’s just him being the little kid he is and enjoying life. He’s really loving life now; think he’s been hanging out with Tony more often, haha..I like his attitude..more drivers need to be upbeat and funny, even if they do seem like they are being obnoxious.
Well, the sun may be coming up before they finish the race! I thought we already had the Rolex 24?
