Petty will not receive penalty for on-air obscenity

Kyle Petty will not face any sanctions from NASCAR for uttering the ‘f-word’ on television last week during the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway. Petty, who was serving as an in-car commentator for TNT Sports as well as driver last week, uttered the expletive during the opening laps of the race when a crash occurred right in front of him. Inexplicably, TNT aired the comment not live, but on replay, after coming back from commercial.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Friday that due to a number of mitigating factors, NASCAR won’t fine Petty points and/or money as the sanctioning body did to Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in 2004 after he uttered an obscenity in victory lane. Poston said the mitigating factors included that Petty wasn’t aware he was on TV at the time, that the clip wasn’t live but shown and replay, and the fact that the FCC recently loosened its own regulations regarding on-air obscenities.

so does that mean that if y’all dont know you’re on tv
you can swear like a drunken sailor and not get fined
or does it really mean that the F word on tv is less
obscene than the word shit is on tv?
well f-ing shit on the tv then huh!
either way, i dont think that either driver
needed to be fined!!
nascar officials are going WAY happy with their
authority!
A few years ago Junior was hammered for saying shit at Talladega. That’s less offensive but it cost him money and possibly a few points. Again, NASCAR has been consistent by being inconsistent. They blew it.
This is totally different George, Dale Jr was being interviewed and was on camera. It wasn’t Kyle’s fault TNT let the audio go through. All the drivers cuss up a storm in their cars, that’s why the edit them beforehand. Dale Jr was responsable because it was live. However, still, Jr should not have been penalized for that either.
now there is supposed to be a ten second delay so it’s a little differant and as far jr’s punishment it was 25 points and $25,000
Kyle was wearing a LIVE mike. For weeks WE KNEW he’d be wearing a live mike, so how did he forget? How could TNT forget? We are still accountable for our actions folks. He got caught up in the moment as did Junior. Kurt Busch could’ve killed one of Stewarts’ guys but Musgrave got suspended and missed a race. NASCAR is consistent at being inconsistent.
theres no way in hell you can bc how was he suppost to know he was on the tv at that secound and its the tv company to make shore that, that doesnt happen where was the 5 sec. delay in the race
Its not the same gigolo. All the drivers have a live mic. Its connected to their teams. Its been monitered live on TV before and played live. They may swear on that thinking they are talking to a crew chief and this is no different. Maybe some people dont think its right to say that but their your choice. Jr knew he was live on TV when he said it. Kyle was in the car driving and had no idea that they were listening to him at this time. If you were driving around a corner on the way home from work and some guy comes flying up behind you and hits you I bet your first reaction would be about the same as Kyles.
Check out some TV from other countries. You better believe they let a lot of stuff go that would never fly here. People like you would be calling everybody you could to complain. You can hear way worse things just walking down the street. Grow up and stop being so overly sensitive.
It’s really not the same. I thought it was ludicrous when they penalized
Jr. I know it’s supposed to be a “family sport” but hell, those kids
have most likely heard it [[or worse]] before. It’s gotten turned around
so the drivers are talking to the press out of obligation or requirement
instead of them being nice enough to talk after their win [[or crash
or anything else]]. If they’re doing you the favor of boosting your
ratings, let them say what they want to say.
There’s really no argument for penalizing Kyle here. He was doing TNT
a favor and they slipped up by letting it through. Yes he was helping
to commentate, but his first job is to do the best with that car he
can. And that’d be about what I said if somebody was about to slam
into a car I was driving. Not his fault.
A driver should be penalized for what he does ON the track, not off of it. Junior’s incident was AFTER a race during a celebration, not DURING the race like Kyles’s. Stewart was penalized too because he said stuff after a race and on a radio show. Kyle was an active driver AND an announcer/journalist at the time of his cussing. He still said it. You’re either pregnant or you’re not.
