Petty Enterprises could move into the soon-to-be-abandoned Robert Yates Racing shop as it continues exploring a permanent site in Salisbury, N.C. Petty Enterprises is currently located in Randleman, N.C., and Salisbury is about halfway between Randleman and the auto-racing hub of Mooresville, N.C.
RYR is moving to a shop closer to Roush Fenway Racing, with whom it will have an affiliation with next season.
“The No. 1 thing is taking care of the employees that we have and to make sure that they know what we’re doing before we really talk about it outside,” said Petty Enterprises Executive Vice President Robbie Loomis. “Everybody knows [Yates' shop] is probably the right fit, but there’s got to be a lot of things worked out before we get to there.
“It’s not where we want to end up eventually. We want to land in Salisbury. That’s where we’ve targeted from the beginning. That is the first thing that Richard [Petty] got comfortable with.”
