Kyle PettyTNT’s Kyle Petty raced Sunday in the Toyota/Save Mart 350 even as he served an on-air analyst. When he got in an accident on the first lap that also involved Matt Kenseth and Marc Goossens, viewers saw a replay in which the driver/analyst seemed to yell out an expletive…although TNT, during the race, said it wasn’t sure it came from Petty rather than from mikes in other drivers’ cars. But Petty wants it clear it was his profanity:

“I’m sorry it got as far as everyone’s living room. But when an incident happens that early in the race and it’s unexpected, what I said pretty much described it.”

That’s why I like Petty he tells it like it is and takes the blame for what he says. To bad some of the rest of the drivers are not the same.
Putting a open mike on a driver in a race is no different than what you would hear from most of us when a stupid driver cuts us off or we just got run over by the guy next to us in traffic. you think….
I’m looking forward to Kyle the announcer.

I think that was from his “team” radio and that is what it sounds like when something happens on the track , Drivers say things befor they have a chance to think about who all is evesdropping, TNT has been brodcasting auto racing long enough to know that and they should of been ready to bleep it, That was TNT’s fault not Kyles, He is covering for them so it doesn’t look bad on them sence he is scheduled to brodcast for them several more times

It sure is nice to see someone step up and say beyond a shadow of a doubt “yes I said it, it was 100% my fault and I am sorry”.

However, TNT has got to be smarter than this. Not only should they be on a 10sec delay to catch live slip-ups, but this was a taped replay and they didn’t catch it, so there should have been 2 shots to make sure it didn’t get out, yet somehow it did.

I agree with Billy. I think Kyle will be a good announcer. He certainly can’t be any worse in the booth than Ned Jarrett and D.W.!

Ok lets all agree, this whole penalty for Profanity stuff is getting old, unless the driver goes on tv, and curses at someone else, it should be fine, if Dale Jr said, after someone else said, how does your 5 wins compare to your dads so many wins here. Jr says haha, laughs, and then says well 5 wins is huge but it aint shit compared to my fathers 10 or 11 wins. now hes got more penaltys for just cursing then he would for cheating, rediculous. Johnson got the same penalty for blatently cheating (sorry if i spelt that wrong.) Also yeah it shouldnt be said if can be avoided, but if something like what Dale Jr did happens, or Petty gets aggravated in the car says something and it gets caught on tv, then he wasnt pointing it at anybody. The drivers are just being themselves, its almost like when theyre in front of the camera, they gotta change so they make sure they dont curse, if they curse, they curse, no point penaltys should be made. You dont see football teams getting a game they won, turned to a loss in there record, because Terrell Owens cursed on tv. So we’ll see, long as no penalties go to Petty, im completely fine with it.

Roxie, I agree. It was kind of funny. I think its awesome that he stood up and said, Yup, that was Me!

Not that I want to heat every swear word under the sun come across my TV screen when I am sitting there
watching with my 3 year old right by my side but around the track or in the garage it’s bound to happen
As long as it is handled tactfully like Petty did that’s fine by me! Spices things up bit eh?
