Roger Penske certainly didn’t condone driver Kurt Busch’s temper tantrum last weekend at Dover International Speedway, and he acknowledges Busch let his emotions endanger a competitor. But Penske’s a racer, he understands and respects the emotional overload on-track competition can produce. So all said, he fully supports his driver.
“In my situation as a car owner, I looked at what happened last weekend and the biggest disappointment I have is that I wasn’t there to maybe keep that situation [from happening] on the pit lane,” Penske said Sunday at Pocono Raceway. Penske said he and Busch met with team executives midweek to discuss the severity of the meltdown, namely what it projected internally and externally. Penske suggested that Busch rally his team, advice the driver heeded.

Any car owner with a drop of respect would sit him for (a) race(s)
himself. Like Roush did, for example. No, instead, he pays off Nascar
so Busch doesn’t have to sit out a race at all.
Just my personal belief, Roger Penske is one of the most untrustworthy
men in motorsports as a whole. I’d already believed that for years,
then recently I discover he’s a corporate director at General Electric.
Theeere’s a great company -_-.
And I would put money on the fact he phoned in a few million favorites
to keep his driver from getting suspended.
Temper tantrum, huh, is that what that is called. He should have benched him since NASCAR didn’t.
I think it’s great for an owner stand by their driver regardless of who & why. It doesn’t alleviate responsibility or accountability but shows they have faith in the driver that they hired. There wasn’t anything commendable about J. Rousch suspending K. Busch IMO. IMO there had to be something very personal. After he (J. Rousch) gave Kurt’s ride to J-Mac he also changed the # from 97 to 26 to “erase” & end any legacy of Kurt’s. I may be wrong but that’s just something I personally believe. When things get difficult you gotta stick to your guns. I like R. Penske just for the fact that he gave Newman his big brake in racing.
I heard Fruit Of The Loom wants to be Kurt’s new associate sponsor. They say they’ve been supporting pricks for years! They’re used to it.
