In my opinion the chance of that is worse than the benifit of a little down force trick with a missing cover. they have filtered air devices , but exhaust gases can still get to the driver in some amounts. If no gain or a loss was found during wind tunnel tests do you think that part would have failed so easily ?? hum, me think not.
