The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series banquet will return to New York City for the 27th consecutive year in December, NASCAR Vice President Jim Hunter confirmed Friday. With rumors swirling about the possibility of the banquet being moved from New York to Las Vegas, Hunter was adamant that the annual awards ceremony will return to New York’s Waldorf-Astoria hotel.
Las Vegas has been campaigning to attract NASCAR’s annual celebration of its champion, and Hunter said NASCAR will keep its options open for future banquets.
“We have [looked around], but we are going back to New York,” Hunter said Friday morning at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “It’s the place the banquet should be right now.”
