Ryan NewmanRyan Newman will be introduced as the second driver at Stewart-Haas Racing on Friday at Michigan International Speedway, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com on Wednesday. Newman reached a verbal agreement with Tony Stewart a few weeks ago, but details about his sponsor and other contractual details had to be ironed out before the deal could be officially announced.

Stewart, who recently took over 50% of Haas CNC Racing, will drive the #14 sponsored by Office Depot and Old Spice. Newman will drive the #4, with Burger King, U.S. Army and UPS being mentioned as potential sponsors.

Newman also was pursued by Evernham Motorsports, Richard Childress Racing and Petty Enterprises after announcing he would not return to Penske Racing next season. Newman will be reunited with Matt Borland, now the competition director at Stewart-Haas. Borland was Newman’s crew chief at Penske for 12 of his 13 Cup victories. Attempts to reach Newman and Stewart were unsuccessful.

No surprise here and now we will have to wait if the story is right about Tony working out the details on the 3rd team for 2010 which is suppose to be Martin and Bass Pro. We will know if thats the deal if the proposed deal to build a new complex goes through in 2009. that will be the signal that Martin will be there in 2010

I really dont have much of an opinion on this matter, but what buggs me is the army and national guard and all of these services sponsoring cars, i mean lets face it we have guys fighting over seas and all we hear is how they dont have the proper protection and so on, but yeah the govt. has millions of dollars to waste sponsoring a car then they could spen that money on our guys over seas who are giving us the oppritunity to enjoy this sport, anyways good luck to smoke and whoever he gets

Because it comes out of the recruitment money and not out of the defense fund.

I dont where the money comes from but i know where it could be going, and if nascar teams were so interested in supporting the troops then let them put there logo on the car for free, im not saying the entire car but enough where you could read the logo

Never heard the Army rumor thought they were staying with DEI and Almirola. Burger King and UPS perfect for a Smoke team. Won’t surprise me if there is a pizza franchise involved sooner or later and how about Subway? Will they be staying with Tony also? even if it’s a small sponsorship. Smoke and Burger King with their flame broiled burgers sounds pretty good.

The Hoosier boys as teammates sounds exciting. Now how many trips will they take to the NASCAR trailer after the races in 2009?

Can we please make it an official rule of this board to stop calling Martin Truex Jr by his first name??? Every single post that mentions only his first name gets a good 3 posts saying “I don’t know why Mark Martin would _________”!

Please for the love of God, start calling him Truex or MTJ or something! None of this would be a problem if Mark Martin would just freaking retire!!!

Howie I parked inside the track and you can’t go out and come back in. I am so sorry I couldn’t come over. I hate that you can’t do that. With all that room you would think that Speed and all the other exhibits could be inside the track. That is one of my pet peeves with IMS.

As well as what T88fan said, sponsoring Nascar BRINGS them in money
for other recources. And it also attracts recruitments. They gain more than just balancing themselves out. You don’t think the National Guard attracts a good percentage of Dale Jr’s younger fans to want to join? It sure as hell does. Marketing is powerful. They know what they’re doing.

I never said NASCAR didnt bring them money or recruitments. I simply stated that for the millions of dollars these services are investing on a car, they could have that money better spent other places, especially the guys over seas. If these teams were so worried about showing there how they back our armed forces, then first of they should allow them to be on the car for free (parts of the car), secondly why now back all of our armed forces and not just one division who pays the millions. I know a good amount of LIL JR FANS and I have never heard any of them say, “I want to join the national guard” to be honest havent heard it from any age group. Until now I cant even think of a time when I have ever heard a NASCAR fan mention any of the services as far being a sponsor. I just wish the guys over seas fighting received as much attention as the services invest into nascar, but no we have the “OVER THINKERS” with lots of power who watch a race and want to get into so they can go to a race and say “gentleman start your engines” or wave thhe green flag or get pit passes. I just beleive the money could be spent better elsewhere
