Looks like the NASCAR Silly Season is going into overdrive early.
Dominating the NASCAR headlines has been Tony Stewart’s possible move to another team from Joe Gibbs Racing and now Ryan Newman is mulling his future in NASCAR.
Newman’s contract with Penske South expires at the end of this year and although he hasn’t made any decisions on his future, he’s certainly alluding that Penske will have to compete to retain his services.
“I haven’t signed my contract yet, and we haven’t even really talked about it yet,” he said at Talladega Superspeedway. “There’s some options out there, obviously. … I’m sitting happy in my seat right now, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be happy someplace else.”
“I know that there’s other things out there,” he said. “I know that there’s other things besides retaining my position at Penske Racing.”
- Newman to leave Penske at end of season
- Penske Racing South President to retire, Newman to get new crew chief
- Newman likely to stay at Penske, Yeley must improve to stay at Gibbs
- Wallace says Newman was fired
- Penske South tests at Nashville

Ryan would make a good driver for Ray Evernham
I think GEM is looking at adding a 4th car next season…maybe Ryan would fit in there?
I think it would be pretty sweet having Ryan at GEM.

Hey, if Bobby or Kyle left Petty Enterprises, Newman would make a sweet addition there. Provided that team wises up and get some better equipment. But yeah, Newman would be great at GEM as well

Well when the COT chassis and Body is pretty much the same and they use GEM drivetrains, there is not much they can do to get better EQ.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, you can have the best EQ in the world, but if you don’t have the right people behind you, you are not going to preform.
I know the history with Dodge but i think Ryan would be better off with Chevy or Toyota at this point Dodge has yet to achieve any level of consistency sad but true.
I wonder what a team with Newman and Biffle + Really Really Good EQ and Crew People would be like.

It would rock, I still don’t think Roush has ever given Biffle the best resources, and Penske’s equipment is still middle of the pack on its best day. Put both of these guys in top notch surroundings and look out.
Joe Gibbs’ 2009 team:
Denny Hamlin
Kyle Busch
Ryan Newman
