Ryan Newman captured the pole for Sunday’s Pocono 500 at the Pocono Raceway, his third consecutive pole win. The No.12 Penske Dodge circled the 2.5-mile tri-oval in 52.922 seconds (170.062 m.p.h.).
The pole victory was Newman’s fourth of the season and 41st of his Nextel Cup career. In his sixth full season, Newman is tied with Mark Martin, who is in his 27th year, for 11th all-time.
“It was a good run, the Alltel Dodge guys did a good job,” said Newman. “The car was fast off the truck, which makes a huge difference. We only did six laps in practice.”
Starting alongside Newman will be Denny Hamlin who posted a second-best time of 53.167 seconds. Hamlin won the pole and this race last year.
Martin Truex Jr. (53.346) and Kyle Busch (53.527) will make up row two.

Yeah!! Geaux Newman! Had to figure that Hamlin would have pole so nice surprise. Now, if only he could get some wins, lol.
hey hey the rocketman is back in action. kool
“I’m not the man they think i am at home
Oh no no no i’m a rocket man”
I love seeing Newman get poles. It’s like Junior winning Talladega to me.
We all know Newman can drive, now if he can just get the racing part down.
Glad to see Newman doing good with the poles, now they need to work on race setup.
Good sign is that most all the winners at this race have started in the top 10 (thats what i heard today on the speed channel)

Pardon me for ignoring Newman’s pole, but he’s one of the biggest
a__wipes I’ve ever [[not]] met. Though we sure tried. Apparently he
just didn’t feel like it. And yes it was quite clear he was doing
nothing else at the time, so there’s no excuse.
glad to see kasey up there. maybe he can post that good of a finish…
