Tony StewartTony Stewart is expected to announce a 2009 move to Haas-CNC Racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in three weeks. Reliable sources tell Sirius Speedway that Stewart will also announce sponsorship from Office Depot and Old Spice as part of a new, multi-year package with Haas CNC, and that Penske Racing’s Ryan Newman will join him as a teammate, with sponsorship from Jack Daniels.

That surprise move comes as the result of an enviable situation at Richard Childress Racing, which now has five potential sponsors for next season, and only four teams. Sirius Speedway has learned that UPS will move from Michael Waltrip Racing’s #44 Toyota to the quarterpanels of Clint Bowyer’s #07 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet in 2009, leaving Jack Daniels in search of a new driver. That driver will be Newman, who is set to sign-on with Stewart at Haas CNC.

Newman seems more like a Jim Beam kind of drinker then a Jack Daniels kind (I hope that makes sense).

Expect the number 07 to go with them, as RCR will most likely go back to the 30.

If JD went with Stewart/Newman/Haas then there would be no need to change the number, I mean there is the 70 car

i wouldnt expect the 07 to go with…unless there is an agreement with RCR to let that # go with JD…..RCR has it registered under their banner and Clint Bowyer is the driver of that #…..ill be suprised if that happens…unless there is a premade agreement between both sponsor and car owner RCR

Darrell, the only reason they went with the 07 is because JD wanted to go with that number because they could make it look like their logo.

Look at the 07 in Microgamma Bold font (RCR’s Font) it looks like crap, plus RCR has more history with the 30.

thats why i said unless they have prior agreement with JD about that #, then it will stay at RCR…maybe so..who really cares anyways…switching #s isnt tha tbig a deal…i think its funny that after last seasons stuff with JR leaving DEI and the drama it caused…all these other drivers are switching cars and #s and what not…its happened more in the past 3 years than ive ever seen it happen

i believe the 07 will disappear after JACK LEAVES the car and Clint will take the 30 #

What’s the worst case scenario here? Gibbs doesn’t let Tony go? So what. Tony can still own the team an have someone sub for him for ‘09. Or he quits and JGR sues him for breach of contract.

Doubtful each way. JGR will let him out if he wants out bad enough. JGR is talkin’ junk just like how they weren’t leaving Chevy for Toyota.

I seriously doubt RCR has any strong ties to the 07 so don’t get hung up on a potential Numbergate. I’m RCR wont throw a fit especially considering Chevy is getting one of their golden boys back. GM wont stand for it.

    So to summarize:
    - Tony out of JGR at the end of this season no matter who says what.
    - 07 going to Tony’s team without any fuss from RCR because they don’t care.
    - DEI getting bought out from Teresa to become a purely corporate-owned team.

Chevy already said they will buy Tony out of his contract no matter what the costs,

DEI is another story but it does not look like it is for sale, I think Dave Moody got alittle carried away on his radio show.

07 will go with JD it is a deal with JD sponsership they want the old no 07 on the car like the net 0 car a few years back

  15. 15 Erin

Howie that is what they have been saying Chevy will buy him out and JGR denies and someone else pointed out the lies they said about switching to Toys last year. I was at the Chevy tent at IMS last year and JJ Yeley for one was saying they weren’t going because they were building Chevy’s for next year! Yeah right….how hard is it to change a nose? Mr Hendrick and RC knew and that is why they wanted them out of the meetings! The writing was on the wall.

It will be sweet to see Newman and Matt back together again.
