National Guard a possible sponsor for Dale Jr in ‘08

No final decision has been made regarding Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s future team sponsor at Hendrick Motorsports, but one is expected within the month and possibly within the next two weeks, multiple sources close to the negotiations said Monday.
It is widely speculated that PepsiCo. is the leading candidate to sponsor Earnhardt through its Mountain Dew brand, but sources with knowledge of negotiations say National Guard is also a top candidate as part of a split sponsorship package.
National Guard currently sponsors Hendrick’s No. 25 car, driven by Casey Mears.
Sources say the combined deal will be the richest team sponsorship in NASCAR history, somewhere between $25 million and $30 million annually.

Two sponsorships is the way to go, look at all the merchandise that can be sold. 2 of everything. I just wish they would get everything figured out, so I can start purchasing some new Jr gear…
Jeez, I’ve had enough of this Dale Jr sponsorship talk. Every time it slows down, there’s another name tossed in the hat and the argument gets going again…
Maybe we can impose a ban on Jr Sponsor talks like people did with freaking Paris Hilton a while back. Too bad the Jr Nation isn’t going to just let this story go until we actually know something

Umm..Jeff…It’s not about Junior Nation keeping it going, it’s about the media constantly trying to find a way to bring up Jrs name to try to bring in ratings. There are many of us in Junior Nation that are sick of the rumors and don’t care to hear anything else until the actual announcement is made by Rick Hendrick and/or Jr himself.
I feel the same theresa im tired of hearing it I dont give a hoot whats on the car its the media constantly bringing it up

Not saying you’re the ones bringing it up, but the media only brings up the story because they know it will get ratings thanks to the Jr Nation. It’s like ESPN talking Yankees and Red Sox all the time. Mariners fans could give a flip less about those teams for the most part, but talking Mariners baseball isn’t exactly going to pull in viewers across the country.
Seems like there’s got to be a more useful subject to write about than pure speculation about Dale Jr’s 2008 sponsor… Maybe I should start writing about it… I hear Taco Bell is high in the running to be his sponsor in ‘08!
I agree 100% with Theresa and Jeff on this one. It’s the media bringing it up.
We would much rather just wait until an OFFICIAL announcement is made and be

I know what you mean jeff Im jr fan but almost daily nascar now spends half the show on jr sponsor rumors it gets old.

all i can say is GOD NO. I for one do not want OUR tax dollars paying for Jrs 30 mil sponsorship. Dont get me wrong, i aplaud what our armed forces do, HOWEVER they should worry more about spending 30 mil on armor, or bringing our troops home, not to splash it on Jrs (my driver BTW) car. Give him pepsi (eventhough he has always been a coke guy) do NOT put the guard anywhere near his car.

i have to agree with viper on this. hendrick and jr needs to get a roll on the sponsorships. enough with the talking about “possible” sponsors. just get the dal one with. so that i can start buyin jr stuff. stop with the talk and reveal the sponsorship(s) when the paperwork is signed and ready to roll in ‘08
Junior’s teams are loading up with the Navy and National Guard while DEI is praying for help from the Salvation Army.
