Robin PembertonNASCAR considered suspension

NASCAR Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton says that NASCAR did consider suspending driver Kurt Busch for a race after a pit-road incident at Dover, but that the sanctioning body thinks the 100-point penalty and $100,000 fine is an appropriate penalty.

“We looked at a lot of different options from Monday night on, and we felt like we got everybody’s attention and we felt like the 100-point penalty, 100,000 was substantial,” Pemberton said Friday morning at Pocono Raceway. “One of the things you can’t lose sight of is we parked Kurt during the race also. … That all wrapped into that.”

Like we posted the other day, NASCAR WAS going to suspend him but they were ‘talked out of it’.

  2. 2 Dreggsta

Even the editor gets in the slander huh? I read nowhere that they (NASCAR) were talked out of it. Correct me if I’m wrong but since I visit this site a lot & never read that for fact (only in assumption from comments posted) is the editor saying this as fact or feelings?

    Dreggsta,

    You are correct.

  4. 4 Andy

They say they considered the “parked him for the race” deal. Unbelievable. He probably wouldn’t have lasted! At most he would have gained 5 points. Thats just crazy.

  5. 5 Breanna.

Yeah, real appropriate. Guess Jr’s for his rear wing clips wasn’t then.
And no, not cuz it’s Jr and it should of been less. But when the
penalty for that is more severe than the penalty for this, something
doesn’t quite match up. So which one is wrong?

  6. 6 Axel Foley

    It doesn’t quite match up…

Do ya’ll think the way this has gone down has anything to do with Roger Penske owning a substantial amount of ISC stock and being on the board of directors? He’s also a corporate director at General Electric.

100 points is substantial but considering the way Pemberton usually handles things this seems weird. The 100,000 will be back in Penske’s pocket so it means nothing.

  7. 7 mare

yeah like he’s really going to say that they’re wrong!!

    gimme a freakin break!

  8. 8 HoppyGirllllllll

This is a joke, right? It’s April 1, and I forgot to change my calender?

I’m a huge junior fan and im not saying this cause im a junior fan but i dont understand how juniors rear wing clips were worth the same penalty as someone who almost his a crew member on pit road. NASCAR needs to grow some balls and really start sitting these guys instead of points and money. if u sit drivers or the whole team maybe they will get the picture. how many times has tony stewart been on probation till dec 31st. one to many along with a ton of other drivers.

  10. 10 Breanna.

Mare-If you’re talking to me, grow brain cells. I wasn’t saying Jr
should call them out about it, I’m saying this is a severe injustice.
    Der.

Axel-Corporate director ate GE eh? Another reason for me to dislike
Roger Penske. GE owns NBC, NBC airs SNL, and SNL flat-out censors it’s
acts to suck up to their respective billionaires. So. Yay. I’d say
all that definitely has something to do with it. When they said Penske
was “lobbying” or whatever my first thought was “Yeah, lobbying my
a__, he’s paying them off as we speak.” -_-

i got a few words to say. @$#@ NASCAR AND @$#@ RYAN PEMBERTON. ALL THEY CARE IS THAT THEY GOT THAT 100000 IN THEY POCKET AN WHO KNOWS HOW MUCH ELSE FROM ROGER. THAT LIKE GIVIN KIDS CROWBARS INSTEAD OF CANDY. NOW EVERY DRIVER WHO GETS MAD WILL TAKE OUT THEIR AGGRESSION ON PIT ROAD AND JUS THINK NOTHIN OF IT CUZ NASCAR WONT SUSPEND THEM.

  12. 12 DEI8

This is crazy. Jr gets a 100 point-point penalty for having wrong wing brackets that where NASCAR issused from testing and Busch gets the same penalty for this. Anytime Jr gets a fine its to the extreme just like his last points penalty.

  13. 13 Teresa

of course it’s penske. he runs irl, too. they go where his wallet does and if it’s a good idea (even if it’s not) it is.

oh, and it’s not like pemberton would have said, “oh, i think we should have done this instead…” right. i think 150 points would have been better. (i seriously doubted they were really going to sit him out sunday.)

  14. 14 Bill

    sponsor money, nuff said!

  15. 15 aracerdude

Nascar has gotten too big and moved away from what is best for racing to what is ‘best’ for Nascar.

  16. 16 Audrey

All I have to say is that something isn’t right. We all know what should have happened and what did happen was far from appropriate for the “crime”. He could have seriously injured the crew member and Bucsh knows that. Why else would they talk about the safety of crew members the way that they do. Again, something just isn’t right.

  17. 17 Bill

get over the “he could have seriously injured baa baa baa” all he did is stop next to the 20 car and block him from exiting his pit. stupid but it did not put any crew members in danger. watch the replay a few times.

  18. 18 Breanna.

I HAVE watched the replay a few times. Regardless of if he intended
on hitting him or not, which I’m sure he didn’t, you don’t pull up
next to a car where a man is standing nearby. Because you never know
when something will go wrong, regardless of how unlikely it would be,
so you just don’t mess around with something like that. As I, and many
others, have said a million times. So how bout you get over the “My
driver is perfect and can do absolutely no wrong” bit. Thanks.

  19. 19 Bill

Breana he’s not my driver. Like I siad hes stupid. Him and Stewert alike need to learn when to race hard and when to let somebody pass so you have a car at the end of the race. Running side by side to keep somebody from passing early in the race will never win you cup! If you must get revenge wait to the next race like Jimmie Spencer did to K B to start all of his problems with NASCAR .

  20. 20 INTIMIDATOR FAN

NASCAR is really starting to suck. Since when is the clips on a spoiler as important as a crew members safety? The same penalty for Jr. and Bucsh is outrageous. Oh and Bill there was a crewman over the wall Busch should be penalized severly for even entering Stewarts pit box. He was driving 3500# of horsepower on slick tires anything could have happened. The penalty just doesn’t fit the crime here.

  21. 21 Breanna.

Bill-I think they should get rid of the d__n championship, that way we
wouldn’t have to watch the drivers be complete and total pansy a__es
all the time. I love that they were racing that hard early on. Like I said, if we
didn’t have the championship, it would sound right to say “I mean,
why not?” But no, we have to hope they just drive around in circles
drinking tea with their pinky extended until the last 100 miles. If
they’re going to only actually race for the last little bit anyway,
why not just have 100 mile races? They’re too long anyway. My Grandpa’s
been a fan of Nascar since the day it started and is one of the biggest
racing fans ever, but he can’t stand to watch the races any more. Why?
Because, in his words, “They’re too long, they’re boring, and they’re
    biased.”

Intimidator Fan-You nailed it on the head;; thank you. You’ve got to
love how Nascar preaches safety constantly, but rear wing cilps get
a stronger penalty than what Busch did. And then people sit there and
    call it fair >_>.

  22. 22 Nascarfan4life24

It wasn’t fair at all! Jr. got a more severe penalty for a less infraction!
Kurt busch must have been under Mike Helton’s desk or something. Cuz he should have been suspended! Busch is an idiot and got slapped on the hand. I think Jr. Nation
needs to go to Nascar or something. It just isn’t right!

  23. 23 One Dale Jr Fan

OMG I think Im gonna have to agree with NASCARFAN4LIFE for once. I agree he should have been suspended! Jr wasn’t pulling up beside someone and almost hurt someone. Nascar needs to do something. I dont care if they parked him from second that it happened. The fact of the matter is IT SHOULDN’T HAVE HAPPENED! Letting his emotions get in the way in a race car is putting more people in danger than a brack infraction.
