ABC’s broadcast of Sunday’s Dickies 500 NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway earned a 3.6 overnight Nielsen Media Research rating, Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Daily reports.
The figure is 10 percent lower than the 4.0 NBC earned overnight for the race in 2006.

thats cause the pats colts game was far more exciting
wasnt watchin it on tv, shoot, i was there. so much fun and glad that Jimmie won…again
Gee…I wonder why!? Hmm not just because the game was on but because it gets REALLY boring watching Gordon and Johnson sweep it every damn week! I am a huga Smoke fan and racing fan in general… but seeing the two SAME drivers win…no wonder no body is watching!
And there’s a commercial break every 5 minutes. That doesn’t help matters any
Many good points mentioned-
1) The game of the year between Pats and Colts was on
2) Too many commercial breaks
3) Everyone tired of Jimmie and Jeff. It’s bad enough that they win,
but it’s worse that they are the only two drivers the reporters talk about.
Last week I told myself that I would watch the prerace until they mentioned Jimmie and Jeff. I had the volume up for about 3 seconds before I pushed the mute button. I was at the race yesterday. the best part about it was that I didn’t have to listen to the commentators!
Only two more races and it’s over on ABC for now. Thank goodness!
Chalk up another one for Brian France.
I agree that the football was a lot more interesting
Glad Jimmy won. Not that I’m a 48 fan I just subscribe to to any body but Jeff theory…
Ratings sucked because ABC sucks at covering the races. I can’t wait till Daytona when the coverage goes back to Fox. At least the commentators know racing and I’ll get to hear ‘ol DW say Boogity Boogity Boogity
I thought I read somewhere that something like 39% of households with a television watched at least part of the Pats-Colts game!
I’m the opposite of you, Bob… I don’t like the 24 or 48, but I’d gladly take Jeff over Jimmie!
Either way, the racing has been bad, the coverage has been mediocre, etc… a 10% drop is pretty significant! NASCAR doesn’t seem too worried about it, or you think they would tried to be at least somewhat proactive, right?
boring all day!
Maybe Jimmie will win the next two. That would be great.
ESPN is dang BORING!!!!! too many commericals,
doesn’t cut back in when there is a caution, commentors Boring!! Boring!!
no interviews end of the race,
BP, miss you much, bring FOX back DW yippeeeee
even NBC, ESPN sucks
I am very disappointed by ESPN’s p!$$ poor effort at broadcasting a race. Their production is way choppier than NBC.
I cannot stand listening to Jamie Little. Hot eye candy? Definitely muy caliente fo’ shizzle. But that’s where it stops. Her attempts at adding excitement with her peppy intonations smack of effort and drive me insane. They’re going for the hot chick angle with no relevant quality to back it up.
I’m sure to catch hell for this, but, to me Brad Daughtery seems like he’s been shoe-horned into the broadcast as the token black guy. He doesn’t have any flow and I question his interest in NASCAR. If he has any, it certainly doesn’t show. He just seems to be out of his league (no pun intended).
Rusty Wallace. #2 shill just behind Michael Waltrip. I look forward to Dale Jarrett replacing him next year (which ESPN says won’t happen - yeah, right).
ESPN/ABC production = cable access quality
I !!!!!HATE!!!!! DW with a passion but Fox offers up much better race coverage.
NASCAR IS OUT! EVERYBODY STARTS WATCHING FORMULA 1! THAT’S WHY.
FORMULA 1 = best drivers and best cars in the world..
