NASCAR to teams: ‘Straighten out your cars’
Quote selected text Published May 18th, 2008 in NASCAR News
Expect NASCAR to tell Sprint Cup teams that they’ve gone far enough - and in some cases, too far - with making crooked cars. Sprint Cup Series director John Darby said Saturday that teams will get a memo, likely this week, telling them to “clean up” the way they’re turning their wheels to help the cars handle better.
“They need some of that, but there are some of them that have pushed it,” Darby said. The rear wheels on some of the cars were turned to the point that some were having difficulty being pushed onto the scales used in inspection.

This is good news, Perhaps it will bring the field back togehter and we wont see shrub and edwards pull away from the field like we have all season
Thank You! I hate seeing those cars comming down the straight away like snakes. The 77 looked terrible last night.
yea… i never really noticed it untill the article about gordon complaining about edwards… then watching the qualifying for the all-star race when they came down pit road… you could see how horribly crooked some of the cars were… its just ridiculous
yeah, no kiddin thats exactly what Jeff Gordon has been telling them about Carl and Biffle. they have the rearend so cockeyed the cars go down the straight away crooked. mount the rearend housing in there square and make other adjustments.
I think when Darby said some teams took it to far
they were referring to that 77 car
they took it waaaaaaay to far
Howie No Race car (unless its one of the very few series that mandates it) have their rear end in the car square.
They just have to make a rule saying that the centerline of the left side hub has to be within 3/4″ of the centerline of the right side hub.
Yea Ripper, i like you never noticed it until Gordon said something. Hopefully it does level the playing field again. One could hope so anyway. The cars i noticed last night going sideways were the 18, 99, 77, 12, 16, 11
I cant comment on this since i dont currently have cable but that would explain why Shrub and Sister Carl can corner better then anyone.
I guess JG wasn’t whinning, after all–Was he?
If so, NASCAR listened. He hasn’t been in
NASCAR, all the years, and his voice not count.
With all due respect to Jeff I still interpret what he said as *cry*They figured it out and we haven’t*cry*
Call it what you want—-They are having to
change their cars. Don’t understand why
when JG makes a statement, it’s crying.
I think it’s because non Gordon fans are so
jealous of him—you all should be happy,
as he’s having such a bad season. Who are
you all going to hate, when he retires?
Actually if ANY driver said what he said I would see it as crying. IDK maybe its because we have been doing the same thing to our short track cars for years, or maybe its because its 100% within the rules, or maybe its just because of the way his statement was made, it came off as him crying about it because they got a legal ‘play’ figured out and his team doesn’t.
Um luv24car i’m pretty sure Kyle Busch has already taken over the hate part. So when Gordon retires you won’t need to worry about who us all will hate, because it’s already Kyle Busch…Just for the record i like Jeff Gordon, but your arguing doesn’t really make sense.
If everything is cool with the cars, then why is NASCAR telling teams to straighten their cars?

Gordons T-Rex car that he ran way back when in the All-Star race was 100% legal, but NASCAR told HMS to never even consider bringing that car to a track again.

I remember the T-rex and it was awesome. They had a feeling something was special about the car and did not find it.
Gibbs is doing something as well as roush and the stance of the car might be the advantage is just don’t know. The 77 was ridiculous though and needs to be brought back to reality. You had to know that nascar would not let anyone who found a loop hole that made their car significantly better than the competition continue. I think they will find something in the Toyota engines as well” eventually”.
half to agree .. I like to let them do there thing.
However when one guy can hit the wall three times go to the back pass everyone and still pull two seconds on untouched cars in the front of the field .. come on the other teams are way to competitive to be that far out of the loop. Toyota as good as they are have something on the field. Time will tell if your not cheating ur not trying.. 1 % IS ALL THE DIFFERENCE
