Marcus Marshall, a driver in Australia’s V8 Supercar Series, said Saturday that countryman Marcus Ambrose’s success in NASCAR has boosted the sport’s popularity in the country, and sparked rumors that a dormant 1½-mile track might get active again.
The track hasn’t been used for about eight years, he said. “It was pretty popular and now there are rumors at the moment of it opening up again, so that kind of fits with NASCAR maybe looking to be more international and Australia as a place to maybe take a round of one of their affiliated championships.” Queensland, Australia, is already a destination of the Indy Racing League.

How will they keep the shiney side up and the greasy side down if they’re down under…?
They should do some combined events… NASCAR + V8 Supercars… one or two races in Australia, and then bring the Supercars to a race or two in the USA (Infineon?).
That would be AWESOME.
I think its great that Nascar is thinking of bringing a Nascar race here to Australia.
I am a devoted nascar fan here in Australia and i will be there in a heartbeat
That will be so Awesome having Nascar back in Australia.
I only see NASCAR coming back to Australia if NASCAR buys/stars a series over there. Actually I think that’ll be the case for all non-North American events.
I know last year I heard some rumours of NASCAR looking into buying into/all of the V8 supercar series, but I have no idea how that would work with TEGA, CAMS, the FIA, and whoever else is involved with the ownership/sanctioning of that series.
Or even re-starting AUSCAR (which was basically shut down because it couldn’t compete with the V8SC, or so the story is told)
Malcom, I have a better Idea then bringing the Aussie V8s to the States, is have the American V8 Super Car Series (http://www.av8ss.com/) go more towards rules like the Aussie series runs, and maybe have it with the Pontiac G8, and whatever Ford calls the Falcon when they bring it stateside in a year or two to replace the Crown Vic, and if Dodge wants to get involved let them too.
I went to that american v8 series website Fisha talked about..
they look like cars families just brought to the track.
But yeah, I’d love to see the Australian V8 Series in America..
I think they have the most exciting races.

Yeah I know, thats why I said they should go more towards rules like the Aussie V8s have, so it’ll be an actual racing series instead of just a glorified track day.
I am glad to here that there is a chance that Nascar will retun to Australia.
Have been a fan from the first time I saw it at the Thunderdome Raceway in Victoria. Bob Jane had the drivers from the US for the opening race which if I remember was a round of the Winston Cup. Top Event.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The main thing I remember is the Noise, Smell of Fuel and the Vibration …
Went to Nascar and Auscar meeting at Thunderdome as a regular prior to moving to Brisbane in 1992
Was in Melbourne last Christmas and by the look on driving the raceway it looks not to get little work.
I watch Nascar on Ten HD TV on the weekends good to see. Hope it comes to Queensland, but have to remember that Thunderdome was built for this type of racing.
