NASCAR to address suspended crew chiefs that still ‘work’

NASCAR plans to address the issue of suspended crew chiefs continuing to do their jobs from locations at the track but outside of the garage.
Crew chief Tony Eury Jr., for example, reportedly worked with Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s team last weekend from a motorcoach parked on a hill outside New Hampshire International Speedway as he completed a six-week suspension.
NASCAR chairman Brian France said that insults the integrity of the penalty.
“We just had a meeting about that,” France said during a Tuesday afternoon conference call. “We will be, if that all is accurate, addressing that shortly.”
France did not expand on what may be done. A crackdown could have an immediate impact on plans for the Hendrick Motorsports teams of Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson this weekend at Daytona International Speedway.
- War of words escalates between Eury, Jr and NASCAR
- Earnhardt, Jr crew chief and six other teams’ crew chiefs suspended 6 races
- Crew Chiefs for Kenseth, Kahne, Sadler, Riggs suspended, fined by NASCAR
- #24, #48, Hendrick fined, crew chiefs suspended, points taken for Sonoma violation
- Riggs says NASCAR penalties ‘don’t fit the crime’

Again I say NASCAR is getting drunk on there own power!
hey they dont wanna follow the damn rule screw it part theyre crew chiefs for 6 weeks give gordon johnson and jr a mid season vacation. nascar was here before them and can do without them!
And they will keep on doing it because it’s not specifically in writing that it’s not allowed.
So the only way to be sure they don’t keep pushing the limits is to remove the driver and place a blanket ban on that team for X= time till the teams understand NO means NO.
Look since day one this has been a Team Sport so NASCAR make it a team penality..
Take the drivers out , how many times have big names missed races in the NHRA , the race goes on and the people come , If you cheat your done , same for qualifying the fastest 43 race if Gordon , JJ,or Jr. aren’t fast enough they sit out.
in FACT, if there’s a chance a big name will sit out, more people
might even show up to QUALIFYING to watch, their driver try to make
the field. i think it would be MUCH better for competition!
OHHH G** D***. Jr’s a cheater. JR’S A CHEATER!!!!!! Where’s the uproar kids. Come on now. Jr and his team can bend the rules and you all are fine with it. I tell you what NASCAR has some of the most hypocritical fans of any sport.
Well I don’t really think theirs ways of stopping them..
Cant just take away their cell phones.
Ben H, JR isn’t doing anything that Knaus didn’t do last year when he was suspended. Supposedly he was in hotels near the track watching everything on the TV and talking to the crew on a cell phone.
I don’t know why anyone would expect anything less if it’s not very specifically stated in the terms of the suspension!
-Jeff
Ben, how is it cheating when it’s not a rule that crew chiefs can’t
work with their drivers while suspended from the track if
they’re outside the track? Nascar can’t exactly go “Aww come on now,
give us your cell phone”. You’re right, Nascar does have hypocritical
fans. They also have stupid ones who spout off at the mouth when they
don’t know what they’re talking about.
Hey Brian France, either pull the corncob out your a__ and stop being
power-drunk on penalties for bending the rules, which has always been
a part of it and probably always will be no matter what you do, or park
the drivers too, that way there’s no one for the crew chiefs to talk to.
Can’t make citizens hand over their own personal property and that’s the
only other way you’d be able to keep them from communicating. I wish
I’d been alive when his dad and grandpa ran it. I mean isn’t getting an
edge kind of the point of racing? I wish they’d revert back to that, but
as they won’t, atleast show some consistency and common sense.
and u know why ratings are down
First of all it’s not the drivers that are the cheaters, 2nd. Ben H. you make a great point…….None of these fans cared when it was Jr.’s team but look out when it’s Jeff or Jimmie. Maybe Jr. should have kept his mouth shut on his radio last week when he saw Tony Eury Jr.’s bus during the race, kinda of started the whole thing
KK, the drivers know about every square inch of that car before they step in it to race, their part of the team,
therefore send their asses home, it is the only way they may get in the heads of these cheaters(I dont care if its
a hendrick, rcr, dei, yates, roush, etc that cheats)
First, no one broke the rules. The rule clearly states the you can no go anywhere that requires a NASCAR pass. ie Garage , spotters stand and pit box. If you are suspended you can go the the motor home, in the stands but just cant be on the radio communication with the team.
second if you dont thins HMS did the same thing last week you are all fools.
Basically it all comes back to there shouldn’t have been a penaly to begin with, Nascar is getting drunk on their own power, I agree gkirb, and so does Eury, Jr.

Nascar isnt overusing their power. Nascar suspended the crew cheifs for a reason (not so they can still tell the team what to do to the car because if they do that they really arent suspended, they just have a different look at the car.
Nascar IS overusing their power. All penalties involved were most
likely accidentally if not certanily accidental. But they penalized
the first and are, too late, hearing the outcry for consistency from
the fans. They need to admit they’ve made mistakes with them all and
stop penalizing this stuff but they won’t. Brian France is too stupid
to admit he can be wrong sometimes.
nascar needs to be called nazi car anymore. abusing their power
is an understatement
and as for tony eury,jr and earnhardt—-dale sr would be
doing the damn same thing only he’d be making noise about it!!
i somehow forsee the teams of nazi car breaking away to a
new program that has none of nazi’s authority figures involoved
still racing but under what used to really be racing!
ban the bullshit nascar officials are abusing their authority and
ruining the sport of auto racing!!
enough of the bull____!
LET’S RACE!!
As I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again, ——–
this is France’s way of taking points, to make
the run for “HIS” championship more interesting.
You can’t make be beleive, that 2 drivers from
2 entirely different teams (Kyle Bush and J
Sauter) could have the same rule violation.
France stated, that taking the points from
JG and JJ didn’t really hurt them, as they “HAD”
so many—So what does he do, he starts from
the bottom of the top 12. If I were any of
the Hendrick team, I’d tell them to race without
me for awhile. (They don’t any need the money
anyway) I for one wouldn’t watch the race on
TV and certainly wouldn’t attend. I already
have tickets and reservations for Daytona
or I wouldn’t go this weekend. I look for France
to either suspend JG, JJ, and JR or to take some
more points. By the way, if France didn’t
have money and status in Daytona, how would
he have gotten out of his “DRUNKEN” accident
in Daytona.
i predicted to all my nascar friends back in jersey that within 10 years nascar will b begging for fans after their autonomous ruling of the sport and their arrogance will turn fans away.three years later and its happening-low tv ratings, the western expansion with boring races, their “we are always right”attitude is sickening.i stil lremember the interview with brian france on network tv about the low ratings and he arrogantly said the reports were wrong.wake up dumbass, you are losing the american fan-oh wait u dont give a damn you want the canadian and latin fan base, then maybe the asian.nobody gives a damn about the indy and cart series and with this attitude of arrogance everyone is getting turned off.for anyone who wants to sat im not a true fan, maybe you need to see my replica dale sr and dale jr cars.i love nascar but hate the czars.just like i love my country but am sickened by how the govt abuses its power-oh theres the correlation-nascar and the us govt, mirror images.we get flyovers and they get to run a monopoly.sanction races and own tracks-keep lying how the france family doesnt, you arrogant little man brian france
at least it wasnt tony this time….
