NASCARNASCAR has stripped Peyton Sellers of his victory in Saturday night’s Camping World East Series race at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in South Carolina for a rules infraction. The decision was confirmed in a statement from the Andy Santerre Motorsports team that fielded the No. 44 Chevrolet that Sellers drove in the season-opening event. It gives the victory to Austin Dillon, Sellers’ teammate. Dillon is the grandson of Sprint Cup team owner Richard Childress.

“Needless to say we are shocked and disappointed,” team owner Andy Santerre said. “We are being made an example.”

The violation involved a shock absorber.

“We admit there was a rules infraction,” Santerre said. “It was a shock to us as much as it was unintentional and unknown prior to postrace inspection.

“We conceded that and worked with NASCAR to make sure it was not found in any of the other shocks or on the second ASM car. It was not. We understood there would be ramifications, but to go against past precedent and take the win is disappointing.”

Historically, NASCAR has levied fines and taken points when a race winner’s car has been found to have issues in postrace inspection, but it has allowed the victory to stand. It also has suspended crew chiefs and Santerre’s crew chief, H.C. Sellers, was suspended for three races.

“They threw the book at us,” Sellers said in an interview Monday night on Sirius NASCAR Radio.

“Carl Edwards wins a race and he gets fined $100,000 and 100 points. …It was simply an oversight on our behalf. …It was my first infraction. I’ve had squeaky-clean record and so has Andy. They hit us pretty hard with it.”

I hope NASCAR gets the stones to carry this practice on to higher series than just the East Series! Too bad I doubt they will :(

Stinks for Austin that even though he got his first win, he didn’t really get to celebrate it.

A win is a win as far as Points and Money go, but I’d rather get the win on the track rather then off the track.

so… why was edwards not stripped of his victory when he had a missing oil cap?

Different Series Director = Different enforcement of rules.

This is a question that will be asked at every level up to cup and rightfully so. NASCAR has let the cat out of the (hat) bag and now every win/infraction will be questioned … Uncle Carl and the boys at Roush need to pay attention to this…

its all under the NASCAR banner though is it not?

I understand what your saying and all but if its all under the NASCAR banner we should expect, above and beyond for the people at the top of the rank, not special treatment as i would call it to those at the top

NFL Europa is under the NFL banner but they do not have all the same rules/polices/procedures.

What is a penalty in NFL Europa may not be penalty in the NFL, and vice versa.

Now don’t get me wrong I understand what you are saying too, and I wish it was that way, but the National/International touring series are what keep NASCAR alive, and if they would kick out or take a win away from one of their cash-cow drivers in one of the top 3 series it would have further widespread results then doing it in the East series.

And while it may sound like what I described makes NASCAR greedy, but its not really that its just a smart business practice of ensuring you cash-cow doesn’t get hurt.

Yeah, sometimes as a fan, you forget that behind it all is a business. The business end of anything ruins it for the fans though

Im only 22 but have been watching it since i was 3 years old, and like everyone else says its just not the same, and the people who are older than me will be thinkin boy you dont even know how it was 20 years before that and they would be right. the only hope i got for good racing like it was in my short era, is the ARCA series. In general this year I have just enjoyed that alot more/
