‘There are thousands of talented race drivers out there who would consider it an honor to compete in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series.’
NASCAR called Tony Stewart’s comments “very, very disappointing.” “NASCAR has been running races since 1948, and we place the safety of the drivers at the top of the list,” said spokesman Jim Hunter (pictured right).
“We have more people and more resources than ever officiating our races. The safety of the drivers is our first priority. It has always been that way and will continue to be that way.
There are thousands of talented race drivers out there who would consider it an honor to compete in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series.”
Hunter said NASCAR had no plans to punish Stewart for his remarks about officiating, which is done from a tower above the race track by a team of eight that includes NASCAR president Mike Helton and competition director Robin Pemberton.

I hate Stewart, he is a loser!!! What a jerk, couldn’t be bothered to talk after the race.
Well I guess him not interviewing and complaining about it in his talk radio did allot. Seems NASCAR didn’t think twice about what he did and just said there’s the door Tony.
Flagged for spam? Me?
Sorry Serg…sometimes the bot catches good posts accidentally. We monitor it and let it through when we catch them.
I think that Stewart needs to grow up and deal with what is thrown his way. He reminds me of my 10 year old cousin. He cannot take the blaim himself, it is always someone else’s fault. He is so big-headed too, I cannot stand him at all. It would be best for the world of Nascar if Stewart just retired and moved to a deserted island all by himself.
I think Tony did the right thing. He doesn’t HAVE to talk to the media that is an option. GO TONY!!!!!!!
NASCAR officials need to wake up. If the fans perceive a problem then they need to prove to us that there isn’t one. Especially when a two time champion is saying something. This is a battle they can’t when if they are going to play denial games.
Well watching the race at Phoenix, I have to agree with Tony, there have been other races, when it was apparent to me that a caution was thrown to the advantage of a certain driver and definitely hurt another.
as for safety, Nascar didn’t get all that serious about safety until Sr. died, while trying to block the entire field at Daytona, then they got serious about it, something that shouldhave been done after the death of Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin,Jr.
btw been following Nascar before it was ever on tv, except for wild world of sports, and followed open wheel since a child and I am now 73.
P.S.
I have followed Tony all thru his open wheel days. He is a very talented driver, has a temper, does anyone remember A.J. Foyt?
Greatest driver of all time, more talent then anyone ever, ‘cept Tony is following in his shoes, champions are driven to WIN, and they drive to win, isn;t that the name of the game? why the hell race if you aren;t racing to win? this politically correct crap has got to go, LETS GO BACK TO RACING LIKE IT SHOULD BE, RACE TO WIN.
WE saw Earnhardt Sr. walk away from more then one interviewer and go to his hauler after a bad race, he refused to ans. questions and I don;t see why Tony or any of the other drivers owe it to anyone to talk if they don;t feel up to it. Let them go to their haulers, shower, change clothes and then if they want to talk, let them. I don;t see mics being shoved in the faces of baseball, basketball, football players.
Well we’ll see how long he can boycott the interviews. The guy is a competitor and wants to win, but to me, he went about this the wrong way.
I’m happy he has fans that support him through thick and thin. Kudos for you guys.
i think nascar needs to wake up. yea smoke complains alot and its kinda gay but hes actually makin sense this time. remember how th tv people said if there was debris that they would show it to you.?? well theres been alot of those cautions where the announcers said that the cameras couldnt find it. think about it people. i am not a stewart fan. im a burton fan and he won texas and i was still yellin about stupid cautions that looked to be beneficial to only hendrick drivers. nascar is startin to lose its fan supprot. they need to wake up and make some changes. this is gettin stupid.
If he can prove it bring it on. That’s the bottom line. I agree though, been alot of cautions and I’ll be damned if I see debris. Fox used all of their cameras to find and all they could find was tape & plastic.
Let’ em race!
As for Tony walkin’ away…NASCAR is the only sport that allows TV crews to shove a camera in the “losing” teams face right after the “game”. The NBA, MLB, NFL and the NHL don’t do that. These players are allowed to leave the field, go to their locker room and cool down, before the press begins their feeding frenzy.
I think that’s where alot of racers who are accused of “whining” comes from…in the heat of battle sometimes you say stuff, that later you say..Damn that was stupid! I know I have…
Not a huge fan of Tony, but honestly, he can drive the hell out of anything he’s in. But if he got away from those baracudas..good for him. And I work in television!
Hendrick is the main shareholder in NASCAR, Favoritism? No Doubt. Electronic scoring is off also look at the loops on TV during qualifying and compare it to the tracks. They determine where they want drivers to start the race. Waltrip got himself in trouble and now he misses every race by 2 tenths. I by no means pay money to watch Nascar races live anymore, its terrible and by looking at the empty seats at the tracks Im not the only 1! Car of Tomorrow? Just anothe reason for the teams to spend their sponsorship money because NASCAR cant get a greedy finger on that money make them spend it. Manipulation definetly!! No Question!! When Nascar feels they have been made a fool of they have the POWER to determine the outcome. What a Joke. They are theives, sneaks, and liars. Its not fun to watch anymore.

consider it an honor to compete in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series.’
Hey Mr Hunter. Go find one then. They’re all sell-outs, and
I’m glad there’s drivers like Tony with enough balls to speak
their mind instead of allowing themselves to get walked all over.
Nascar’s becoming a joke, and Brian France and Mike Helton are too
stupid to turn it back around.
If the phantom cautions don’t exist, then why can’t they just prove all of us fans wrong? Hmmm…makes you wonder.
