• Bruce Jeffrey Hayes, a 44-year-old fabricator for Penske Racing who also owned S&S Performance Fabrication, died Wednesday. Hayes had also worked for several other NASCAR teams. Survivors include his wife, Amy Stewart Hayes, and daughter, Victoria.
• Jon Wood will drive the No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford at Las Vegas, Charlotte, Daytona in July, Pocono (Pa.) and Bristol (Tenn.) in August and Richmond (Va.) and Dover (Del.) in September.
• Mike Nelson, the crew chief for Ryan Newman’s No. 12 Dodge, is a father again. His wife, Kim, gave birth to a daughter, Claire Margaret Nelson, on Dec. 22. The Nelsons also have a 2-year-old son named Carter.
