NASCAR likely to change gear rule before Daytona 500

NASCAR is still evaluating data from Sprint Cup Series testing at Daytona International Speedway, but it looks as if there likely will be a change in the gear rule when competitors return in February. Teams currently have a choice of a 370 gear or a 375 gear, but their RPMs are above what NASCAR is looking for.
A change in gear - likely a 364 gear - would reduce RPM. That would make the engines more durable. It could even make the cars faster.
“If we change the rule, we won’t do it officially until all of testing is completed,” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Director John Darby said Wednesday during testing. “I think all of the teams are already anticipating a change. I know a lot of teams last week tried a 364 gear and a lot of teams here have got 364s in.”
NASCAR would like to keep the RPMs below 9,000, Darby said. Darby said no one has reached 9,000 RPM.
“We’re getting too close to that,” Darby said. “The key to it is if 10 cars are drafting and they see 8900, when we put 43 out, they’re going to be over 9000.”
Darby said NASCAR is fine with the overall speeds, which have hit 188 mph in drafting.

Why didn’t these nitwits just do it before the testing or before it was complete?
i think thats why they call it testing nitwit
I don’t know what you know about anything toddler, let alone racing. NASCAR, the nitwits, ran the COT enough last year to get a good idea of where they thought they needed to be. The COT ran at Talladega which uses a slightly different gear. Now the testing data is not so accurate because NASCAR, the nitwits, guessed wrong. The qualifying and racing gearing packages now are not the ones they tested. The COT concept also meant that there would not be a lot of changes. That apparently isn’t true either. NASCAR, the nitwits, was great at always changing the rules. It was always after the season started. Mid season. It didn’t matter. That’s the way they worked. You had to run drop snout cars at some tracks when NASCAR mandated so. You needed at least 4 different style chassis (7-8 cars)for a one car team. The COT concept is supposed to make things cost effective in the long run. Changing mandated gear ratios now says NASCAR didn’t do their homework.
No name calling toddler. Nitwits best described NASCAR and their ever changing rules policy.
well we are not @ Talladega and this is preseason so nothing is set in stone so whats the big deal? i have worked for all kinds of race shops from drag cars, off road pro trucks, dirt track cars, and the west series cars. how about your self? btw why dont you leave you name? will your mom get mad if she finds you on the computer again?
My mom was killed by a drunk driver. Head on. He died too. He had just robbed a store and was fleeing authorities. Put your resume and contacts out here for all to see if you are so wonderful. And then we can check them ourselves. It was noted that they were at Daytona and not Talladega. If you were in a sport, how would you like it if they kept changing the rules year round? It makes it harder on everyone involved. Thank you for your comments. Have a nice day.
why would i put my resume and contacts on here? that would be like you emailing me the news paper about your mom. why would you have prove that? but like i said its preseason! nothing is set in stone yet. or better yet why dont you buy nascar and make the rules yourself then it would be just what you want it to be. ok
And you could be my Robin Pemberton. I’ll call a truce. How about that? I gotta call my buddy Brian France now and see what he’s up to today. Vroom.
it is so stupid that NAZI CAR officials keep chaning the rules constantly. It’s not just in the off season but during the season too.
Enough already!! Can’t we just race!!
