NASCARCould NASCAR’s Labor Day weekend race be going back to the Southeast?

Whether Atlanta Motor Speedway and newly named Auto Club Speedway could end up swapping dates in the fall in future seasons is still to be determined, but both track presidents seem willing to talk about it.

Atlanta Motor Speedway battles college football and potential weather issues with its race in October. The race in California battled major heat on Labor Day weekend.

“Would it be beneficial? You’d have to look at all the factors that are involved,” Atlanta Motor Speedway President Ed Clark said Friday. “But I’d certainly be interested in taking a look. We’d want to research what the fan reaction would be, things like that. That’s who we really work for … you want to keep your fans happy.”

Atlanta would be ok but if gonna move it put it back at darlington where it belongs.

I don’t know about Atlanta. I believe they have stuggled with attendance too. Cali for sure needs to lose a race though. I cant believe they actually got a 2nd race when they couldnt sell out 1. I would love to see the Southern 500 back at Darlington.

Give it back to Darlington, or atleast switch Darlington’s current date with California’s Sept. date.

I wouldn’t say Atlanta struggles with attendance when they keep adding new seats every other year. It doesn’t always sell out but attendance is always very good.

I think a swap would be ok with Atlanta taking Labor Day but it could be HOT. October is always iffy. Last October in Atlanta was great weather, year before was rain, year before that was bone chilling cold. I do like having the Halloween race though. It’s always fun camping.
We currently deal with the same weather issues for both races March and October. Moving to Labor Day just means we can add heat to the mix. Whatever they decide, I’ll be there!

No matter where the race is there is always a chance that the Labor day race is going to be really hot, even if it’d move to the North East or North West or even a place in the middle, chances are its gonna be hot.

But then again as much as race fans complain about the heat, I’m sure we’d all rather have a heat wave then a 3 or 4 day monsoon like they had at Michigan last year and at Cali this week.
