NASCAR interested in possible Meadowlands site for track

NASCAR is eyeing the Meadowlands again. Executives from NASCAR and International Speedway, the sport’s biggest track builder, have had preliminary discussions with Carl Goldberg, chairman of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.
NASCAR has long wanted to hold a race in the nation’s largest media market, and a plan to build a track in Staten Island recently fell apart. Goldberg, who did not think enough of the discussions to inform the sports authority’s board, characterized the meetings as “informal with no definitive proposal.” NASCAR considered the Meadowlands Sports Complex five years ago but faced major community opposition. The new plan is similar to the old one, with an auto racing track that surrounds the Meadowlands Racetrack.
