NASCARNASCAR has requested and has been granted a hearing by Judge Marvin H. Shoob to stay today’s decision [AT&T allowed to use logo on RCR Chevy]. The hearing will be held at 11:30am/et tomorrow morning, May 19, 2007.

If the judge grants the stay, then the #31 car will remain with its current branding. If NASCAR’s request is denied, then NASCAR will seek an emergency stay from the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday morning.

NASCAR:

Today’s ruling is limited to the facts of this particular case and does not have broad implications. NASCAR will continue to provide a sponsor friendly environment for the industry and its partners and will protect the industry from actions designed to interrupt a business model which has been beneficial to all.

It is important to understand that Sprint Nextel is a cornerstone sponsor that benefits the entire industry by way of its contribution to the championship point’s fund, technology bringing fans closer to the sport, and its massive marketing and advertising campaigns.

Sprint bringing fans closer to the sport? I can’t even get close to calling my peeps without getting dropped or having to pay hidden charges. And their minute plans….way too expensive. Then again, everyone complains about their mobile company.

    Screw Nextel.
Nascar has gone in the shitter since Nextel took over, and as slowly gone down hill since then.

AT&T is the same damn company as cingular. How stupid Can Nascar and Nextel be.

They keep on saying Cingular is the new AT&T cause it is.

How the hell is freaking Nextel brining us closer to the sport?
Drivers have been signing autographs LONG Before Nextel came in.
Those TV screens at every track have been their Long before Nextel came in, people have been briung their own, and renting scanners at Nascar events long before Nextel.

All Nextel has done is ruin the sport.
Yellow walls at Lowes? What the hell is that shit.
4 20 lap segments for the all star race?
What the hell, they are costing us like 40 laps from what we use to get with, 20 laps, then like 40 or so, then a final 60 laps.

So does that mean that they will make Ryan Newman the Alltel car to go also!! Thats not right if a sponser wants to come in I dont see really the big deal! And just for facts I luv Alltel and never had a promblem with them and I have had them for now 5 years never leaving them!! lol

Thing everyone is not looking at is the fact that Nextel and AT&T are in direct compation Alltel is just a mobil carrier Both Nextel and AT&T are complete comuntcation companies that offer the same types of service the mobil provider is just a very small part of both companies. I am not sticking up for either NASCAR or Nextel but I do understand thier problem.
To allow AT&T to spouncor a car in Nextell would be like putting Burgar King signs in McDonalds. It not good business to advertize for you competitors. And a court that forces a company to advertize for thier competitors is out of line and needs to be delt with. That Judge is not looking at this the right way and needs to be reeducated. You can not force a company to advertize anything and you can not force them to advertize for thier competitors. So I hate to tell you all but on this one Nextel and Nascar are right. Let me give you another sinarieo that will hit home better say you have a team that drives Chevys but Ford wants to sponcor that driver do you force Nascar and Nextel to put a big blue oval on a Chevy HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I had Sprint…enough said.

At least with Cingular/AT&T, they will discuss your bill with you and remove charges they even think are insane. France dude pull your head out.

Charly…BTW…I am going to sponsor you to get you some spelling lessons at Sylvan.

  8. 8 Ben

charly it would be different if verizon or t mobile or cell one
wanted to come in and sponser a car because they have nothing to do with cingular AT&t does they own them so there fore i think they should be allowed to be on the car so it’s not like your b/k and mc’ds
or your ford sponser on a chevy car AT&T is Cingular so therefore are grandfathered in as far as i am concerened

  9. 9 strech

thank u ben for spellin it out like it should be for those who dont get it.

NASCAR is being treated just like everyone else and they don’t like it. Too bad! The France family has run roughshod on people for years. They screwed up the diecast and collectibles business too. They never have enough money. They’re a sorry group of self centered individuals and just can’t take it when things don’t go their way. Spoiled, pampered, little brats. As Curly Howard once said, “Thanks judgey wudgey!”

I gotta agree with MIKE! He said it best!!

“It is important to understand that Sprint Nextel
is a cornerstone sponsor that benefits the entire
industry by way of its contribution to the
    championship point’s fund, technology bringing
fans closer to the sport, and its massive
    marketing and advertising campaigns”

It is also important to understand that no
sponsor has a “monopoly” on their type of product
as they ONLY company to market that product by way
of NASCAR Like ok there’s a budweiser car but there’s also
    a Miller Lite car….

good golly miss molly!! Nextel aint really done much for
Nascar, penalites and the bullshit has gotten worse
the sport hasn’t improved and SPRINT well, I have sprint as
a cell server and if I were using it right now the call
would be dropped! the phone is not something i can change,it’s
a “business perk” thru work to stay connected but
we usually ask what are we connected to!

Get off the pot or shit! let other cell companies
sponsor who ever they freaking want to!! it all puts
money into the sport! for god sakes!! let’s find something
STUPIDER to fight and argue over!! no wonder the penalties have
gotten so stiff this year!! These penalized teams are
    paying for nextel/sprint’s attorney fees!!!

    let it go nascar!

…Give it up, Brian. You’re starting to look like the jackass that you really are.

…It’s not bad enough you’re taking our beloved sport down the toilet with your Car of Tomorrow.

…It’s not bad enough you’re ruining our beloved sport by ruling it with an iron fist. Just look at the ridiculous Junior penalties! They’re insane and I’m not even a Junior fan!

…Pretty soon your trackside henchmen be wearing swastika armbands, goose stepping up and down pit road and yelling, Seig Heil!

…No, that’s not enough for you! You want to dictate what sponsors a team can and cannot have! Why? Because NEXTEL is lining your pockets to enforce a monopoly and you’re afraid it will stop?

…Well, too bad, France family. We don’t allow such monopolies to exist in this country. We defeated your kind back in the mid 1940’s and we’ll defeat you again.

…Thank you, Judge Shoob, for doing the right thing!
