NASCAR expects AT&T logos off RCR car by Bristol this weekend-UPDATED 3

UPDATE 3:
Richard Childress, in his first public reaction to lawsuit proceedings between NASCAR and AT&T, told ESPN.com Saturday that he has no current plans to take personal legal action against NASCAR in an effort to retain AT&T as sponsor of his No. 31 Chevrolet.
“I don’t really have any plans to do that right now,” said Childress, owner of three Nextel Cup Series teams.
“There’s got to be some give and take,” he said. “You sit back and look — at the end of the day it has to be a case of Sprint and AT&T trying to figure a way that they can both live in the same world.”
He feels they’ve already proven it can happen.
“Let me give you an example: AT&T has been on the car for 14 weeks, and all the media [attention] has been on the Chase. That’s Sprint’s deal. They’re getting plenty of value out of the Chase,” he said. “And AT&T is over here marketing Jeff Burton. The world didn’t stop when we put it on the car the first week.
“There’s room for all of us. It isn’t like AT&T bought Cingular. They owned Cingular anyway. They’re just re-branding it. To find a way where all of us can survive in this world it would be good for RCR, good for the sport.”

UPDATE 2:
As expected, AT&T has asked U.S. District Court Judge Marvin Shoob to issue another injunction to allow its logos on the No. 31 Richard Childress Racing car.
The motion was filed in the Atlanta court Friday afternoon. A hearing isn’t expected until the week of Sept. 10 at the earliest.

UPDATE:
ESPN’s Marty Smith reported on NASCAR Now that the No. 31 car will not have the AT&T logo on it this weekend for the Sharpie 500 at Bristol. The car “will be an orange and black paint scheme that was like their previous paint scheme, the Cingular paint scheme, … but there will be no logos on the hood or back deck lid or Jeff Burton’s driver suit or the team’s uniforms.”

NASCAR expects the AT&T logos to be removed from the No. 31 Richard Childress Racing car for the Nextel Cup events this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a mandate Tuesday that its decision to be followed that NASCAR is not legally required to allow the AT&T logos on the Jeff Burton car, NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Tuesday night.
Court documents indicate that AT&T plans to ask the district court to consider another injunction under the premise that NASCAR’s actions indicated that a logo change was permissible and therefore it’s an injustice that they cannot.

Its hard for teams to find sponsors so NASCAR kicks one out that wants to be there? Nice going.
Just paint the car Blue and white 1/2 circles with a little sign saying “The the phone co. previously known as cingluar”. That should fly by A$$CAR just fine.
I really think the depth of this goes beyond racing and beyond NASCAR. This is about big business and NASCAR got caught in something that is beyond their control at this point.
Dear editor please please remove the post before mine

NAZI-CAR
it’s an equal opportunity sponorship isn’t it???
should be, I dont know of anyone else that would go so far as to do this!
and we all know they’re just out to control everything!
?????? CAN WE JUST FREAKIN RACE ??????
Same Company, new logo. let AT&T race!, look for that on a sign on Trackside at Richmond.
if anything all this has done is lead me to decide i will never get a nextel phone. they pay big bucks to sponsor the sport, hoping the hardcore fans will buy their product, and then they go and make asses of themselves. jeff burton is a very respected driver, as is rcr as a team, how does nextel see battling with them as good for advertising purposes? if i ever leave veizon, which is doubtful, i will surely choose at&t over nextel. its amazing that they have not realized how badly this could hurt their image.
They should put the cingular man on the hood sayimg “censorship…gotta hate it”.
what they should do is put the logo in but make it blend in with the paint scheam. they cant go and say you cant paint your car that way
Craker Bob, I like what you had to say! Love the idea! I think they should do it!
come on, NASCAR should let AT&T be on the car
It just goes to show Sprint cant handle compitation. This will cost them in the long run.
I think NASCAR should not be able to push around sponors its hard enough to get one and then they say o sorry you cant use this one what kinda crap is this nascar what happend to you?
sad sad sad.
dosent nextel/sprint realize they are giving more credit to at&t? more people now reconize what orange and blue mean, so whats the big deal if the logo is there or not, Everyone still know who the sponsor is. nextel/sprint is just scared that everyone will find out how much they suck!
craccker bob your awesome
okeegir that is very true
wats even more stupid is that nascrap is sayin no new telecomunications companies. at&t and cingular were both owned by i think bellsouth. watever company it was. so basically at&t and cingular were already the same company before all this crap started and the company basically jus merged its two halfs together an dropped one name. how is that a new company???? somone please explain that one to me. i have verizon service but im a huge at&t fan and a huge burton fan. nextel is a lousy company that gets next to no service at all. make a better product an u wont have to make up bs exclusitivity agreements to seem bigger than somone else. And DONT FORGET PEOPLE, BIG LATEMODEL RACE AT MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY SEPT 30TH. BE THERE!!!!! WERE GONNA TRY TO MAKE THE SHOW WITH THE UNSPONSORED #36 CHEVY MONTE CARLO SS!!

O AN WOULDNT IT BE FUNNY IF AT&T TOOK OVER AS THE TITLE SPONSOR OF THE BUSCH SERIES NEXT YEAR WHEN BUSCH BEER’S CONTRACT IS UP??
Now thats a great Idea Strech I would really like to see ATT do that.
Good luck on making the race #36, Keep us posted on your try.
It’s NASCAR’s sandbox, they should get to decide who plays and who doesn’t. AT&T should have done a little more research and asking around before they decided to mess with all this. I have zero sympathy for AT&T on this deal. There are plenty of other sponsors for a top-tier team. Burton will be just fine.
Sounds like Richard is getting a tired of being the meat in the sandwich and wishes it would all go away.
The car looked real bland in all orange, I still think they should paint it Blue and white 1/2 circles or maby slap a big old Bud Sticker on it next year.
OK, way back in the day when cars could have cigarette sponsors- wasn’t there a Marlboro car in the Winston Cup Series? Maybe I’m wrong, but if not, why can’t AT&T sponsor a car in the Nextel Cup Series?
sad its just sad im done with nascar if big E was still alive he would not run in this nascar robby kyle and jeff have been screwed by nascar and the fans of the sports roots the true fans the fans that would go to places like wilksb and rock have been screwed so to nascar i say screw you im done
