NASCAR declines Texas’ offer to host another Cup test

TMS President Eddie Gossage said in a news release Tuesday he made the offer to play host to another test of NASCAR’s new car after watching the UAW-Dodge 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the number of crashes during the race weekend.
“My concern is they did have an open test at Las Vegas and still had a record number of cautions, including three serious crashes involving former Cup champions,” Gossage said. “We only have had a two-car Goodyear test, so we could see a lot of crashes, and that causes me concern. I’m sure the teams would like as much data and track time as possible to reach that comfort level with the car and its performance at our speedway.”
Goodyear tested tires with drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Clint Bowyer on Jan. 15-16. The Samsung 500 is scheduled for April 6.
But NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said in an e-mail Tuesday that no more tests would be added in 2008.
“The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is testing in Phoenix today and will test at Pocono and Charlotte later this year,” Tharp said. “There are no plans to add tests at this time.”

Nascar and Goodyear need to wake up
After Eddie’s 15K offer I don’t think he is on Nascar’s list of track managers they want to work with.
His offer was a good one and probably well needed by drivers but he is persona-non-grata with NASCAR for now.
Nascar needs to let all the teams test as much as needed to get up to speed with this car/tire combination. They will not do it but they should.
Why not just let them blow tires and destroy cars? The COT would be saving money if it weren’t for goodyear tires blowing out causing half the cautions.
