Rumors are swirling about Toyota driver Michael Waltrip’s future and his sponsorship support, after failing to make the last six tour races.
According to one unconfirmed report, Waltrip is having to return $300,000 to his sponsors for each race he misses.

This is why i think all teams should still have to get in on lap time or provisionals.
yeah but what u dont realize..is waltrip still sucks..so who cares he shoulda retired b4 his brother did..only reason mikey even won a race is b/c he was with DEI and during their restrictor plate dominance..other than that he blows major @$$
I don’t care who the driver is, I just feel that drivers should get in on time not owner points.
It’s called sponsor security, chevetteracer…gotta have it. Now 35 drivers is way too many, should be maybe 30. Waltrip hasn’t been able to post a fast enough time anyway. He should just stick to tv.
Waltrip still wouldn’t be making the races even if it was based on time. He may have made one or two more, but he’s just not fast enough to make the races.

he used to be only half decent cause he drove a chevy….look at mark martin..hes having one of the best seasons of his career, and he’s in a chevy now….bottom line is he (waltrip) drives a toyota and toyota sucks i dont care who the driver is
The 43 FASTEST cars should make the races! DROP THESE CRAP “PROVISIONAL SPOTS” and let EVERYBODY that qualifys in the FIRST 43 SPOTS MAKE THE RACE! Regardless of WHO the fastest 43 are!
NASCAR should set the field from the fastest 43 in the final PRACTICE! NOT 2 hours of QUALIFYING every week!
Waltrip STILL might miss races, but atleast he will try harder to gain 2 tenths in practice rather than just hope the cards fall in the right places…

I used to like Michael until he bought his way into two races last year. He sux. As most people have said if he hadn’t been at DEI he probably would have never run a race. Maybe he needs to get out and let DW drive. Toyota went with the wrong group and so did poor Dale Jarrett. Don’t think toyota should even be in it.
Can’t even drive his SUV, let alone a racecar. Maybe he forgot how to drive period. Too bad. He was a sponsors dream. Something’s got to be up. Can’t make a race and then flips his SUV and flees the scene? Somethings not right in his head
Mark Martin having one of the best saesons of his career??? Get your head out of that dark stinky place and do some reserch! Some years back he would have won the Winston Cup if The France family, Bill Jr, had not taken points away for manifold that did not encrease performance, NASCARs own words. France had venditta with since pulling out of NASCAR in the 70’s About who race’s who doesnt take alesson from the AHRA and John Force not makeing the cut last weekend, THE FAST SHOULD RACE, the slow go home!! Mikie needs to get out the car, off the TV and run his team!
Michael only did well when he had the backing of DEI he didn’t do well before them and he hasn’t done well after them. I also think Toyota is having issues because only 1 Toyota driver has qualified his way in I think every race HMMM what does that tell you they should get the hell out! I have to agree though there is something wrong with Michael’s head and I am sure Dale is thankful he plans on retiring soon.
He should’ve stayed with DEI. Toyota sucks @ss and shouldn’t even be in the sport.

You know with Toyota in here now, other foreign companies are going to be trying to get their cars into the field eventually. It’s an American sport.. why not keep it that way?

I’am sorry but i have to disagree with most of you. There is a reason that Mikie races…. He is a race car driver. 90% of you that are saying he sucks could never get in a cup car and do half the speed he does. Mikie is having a bad year. No one said that Toyota was going to come in a win every race. Toyota has every right to be in nascar as Ford Chevy or Dodge. Most of the Toyota stuff is made in America anyway. I think Mike needs to take some time and regroup think about what he needs to to and put that in affect. As far as his sponsors go i say screw them they are not the only ones out there. Mikey is a face to the sponsors. He is popular and people know who he is. I know this is going to piss a few of you off but i had to throw the other side in there for you to chew on.
Adam, in this day and age it is very hard to get sponsors. If you aint winning then they aint giving you any money. People pay to be on the winning side. They dont pay millions of dollars to let some jackass TRY and get into a race. By Waltrip failing to make the show NAPA is losing the millions it has paid him to promote their product on national tv.
Here we go…fans wanting changes and when the changes happen, they complain.
