Montoya secretly testing in preparation for next year?
Quote selected text Published September 18th, 2006 in NASCAR NewsWhile Montoya apparently cannot do any official testing until his McLaren contract ends on Oct. 22 - unless DaimlerChrysler executives can resolve things - some people in the NASCAR garage say they wouldn’t be surprised if Montoya is already testing a stock car somewhere anonymously, given the long learning curve ahead.
Depending on how swiftly Montoya can make the transition, he could run in either the Memphis Busch race on Oct. 28 or the Atlanta Nextel Cup race on Oct. 29. He would also be free to run at Texas, Phoenix and Homestead.
Although NASCAR officials are keeping out of the debate, saying they still haven’t even received a resume from Montoya, much less a request for a driving license, they would almost certainly prefer to see him run some laps in the Oct. 6 ARCA race at Talladega, since he plans to run at Daytona in February.
- Montoya to test at Homestead
- No 15 team, Menard testing at Kentucky
- Nextel Cup testing notes
- NASCAR testing starts today at Lowe’s
- Busch, Blaney go testing

He’s testing all right. They brought Michael Waltrip in to teach him how to fit 17 sponsor names in between “the” and “Dodge”.
Hardees is catering the sessions.
For all we know, he might be driving a competition viper or corvette just learning how to use a clutch again.
Do you have the feeling that Montoya is like the poor little orphan that lost his home and he has to find hand outs to survive?? At least, it gives me the feeling that it is a big come-down from F-1 to the hyper-commercial fender bender series.
