Montoya not making many friends in NASCAR

Juan Pablo Montoya doesn’t seem to have a lot of friends in NASCAR. The Nextel Cup rookie, who made the jump from Formula One, doesn’t care. “I think I’m a lot more popular here than I was in F1,” Montoya said Friday. “So, I’m OK.” Montoya has generated animosity among his peers this season for aggressive driving that has led to crashes.
The latest was last weekend on the road course at Watkins Glen, when he and Kevin Harvick got together with less than 20 laps left while both were running in the top 10.
After the accident at Watkins Glen, Montoya and Harvick went helmet to helmet in a shoving match. More harsh word followed two days before Sunday’s 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
“He drives like he doesn’t know what he’s doing,” Harvick said. “He can run fast, but he’s all over the place and every week it seems like he runs into a different person.
“He shrugs it off like he doesn’t care about anybody or anything. You make him mad and it’s, `Well, I’ve got a five-year contract, and I’ll just wreck you every week.’ It’s hard to talk to him and he doesn’t really respect anyone around him.”

he keeps this up, and gets a few more of the top drivers against him, and he will keep nowhere. it will be funny at dega, seeing him try to work the draft with 42 guys that hate him. i think the guys got talent. but this isnt f1, you dont just get a 3rd place car, start third, and finish 3rd. we actually race in nascar, you gotta get close, and your competition has to be comfortable to have you that close, otherwise the guys going for the title are just gonna move him any time he gets near them. he needs to learn, you dont have make friends with all the other drivers, but you need to be careful not make them all enemies.
i agree with Andy!! r u kiding me and after week by week Nascar doesnt do anything about his recless driving!! But if it was Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewert, Or Jr, they would fine them big money!! i think its time they kick Montoya out of Nascar, becuase its getting rediculous!! im sick of this , pretty sooon im just gonna stop watching!!

Give him a chance he will get it about the other 42 cars soon enough.
He has a lot to learn about stock car racing, more than just driving the car. His talent is vast in anything with wheels more than any rookie driver in a long time that NASCAR has seen. He will learn that the other cars can be his friend as well as fierce competitors.

Walk my his merch hauler and there is not anyone in line. Where does he get the impression that he’s POPULAR? Just wait… one of these days NASCAR will fine him, suspend him, or something… then LULAC will get involved and try to accuse then of being discriminating. I hope that his 5 year contract ends before the time is up. I can’t take much more of this guy!

Even if people hate him, they know him, and that’s popularity. I don’t think any of the drivers necessarily hate him. I don’t even think Harvick hates him like he hates Biffle or Rudd. Why blame Harvick for being pissed at Montoya? It’s funny some of you consider Harvick a redneck. He’s from _______ Southern California! He knows about people with a brown complexion.
Montoya looks like Johnny Sauter out there at times but I really think he’s a good driver. He deserves to be here more than a few others who have had rides in Cup for years.
Also, don’t be comparing this dude to Dale Sr. Dale made conscious decisions to do things that usually moved him forward on the track. Most of the things Montoya is doing this year are mistakes that end up with him losing positions. A lot of other drivers cause a stir. If he is anywhere remotely close to Dale Sr. he should be on the road to a championship right about now…
The only reason, JPM “thinks” he’s more popular
than he was in F1 or Cart is, he couldn’t even
keep a ride in either those series. Maybe, he thinks the “boos” or “woos”. Why do you think he and Harvick weren’t penalized, for their shoving match on the track, during the race? I have to agree with JPM on one thing. He’s a
“COCKY COLUMBIAN” don’t know about the
racer part. None of the drivers liked him in F1.
When he was in F1, I felt sorry for him, because
all the drivers gave him such a hard time. Not
anymore, He’s not an aggressive driver, he’s
a dirty driver, He thinks everyone should move
for him, when racing. If he continues to race as he does, the other drivers will move and
let him pass or he will wreck them. When he is
close to Gordon, I hold my breath, until Jg gets
away from him. Harvick lines up right behind
JPM, tomorrow. Hope he knocks him out of the
way.
JPM is what I like to call a “Sr. wannabe.”

poor poor scott, he is all mad cause someone dares speak the truth. NASCAR is an american sport, whether YOU like it or not, so you deal with it. Montoya won’t last, “drivers” and I use the term loosely, like hime never last long. He will either get his act together or someone will take him out and teach him a hard lesson. My opinion is thats what he needs. Catch him entering a turn at DEGA at about 200 MPH and clip him into a wall, let him see what it feels like to be wrecked for no reason. If the other drivers just take him out every race for about 5 or 6 in a row he will get the message fast.
