NASCAR rookie Juan Pablo Montoya has a unique perspective on the current scandal in Formula One, where his former McLaren team has been fined $100 million and docked all of its constructor points for cheating.
Montoya, who was alienated from the F1 team before leaving late last year to make the move to stock cars, said he isn’t really interested in what’s happening to McLaren now.
“I can’t really care,” the Colombian driver said.
“In a way, it’s sad to see that in sport, and I’ve got to say that I am glad I am not a part of it.”
Asked if the penalty is too severe, Montoya replied: “Welcome to F1, I guess.”
Montoya has said many times this year he’s glad to be away from the politics of F1.
“Don’t get me involved,” he said. “I could talk to you for hours and hours and hours about it, but I don’t want to.”
