Juan MontoyaNascar fined Juan Pablo Montoya $10,000 and placed the driver on probation until December 31 for an inappropriate gesture made during a practice session at Phoenix International Raceway.

Montoya, who drives the No. 42 Dodge in the Nascar Busch Series, was in violation of Section 12-4-A of the Nascar Busch Series, actions detrimental to stock car racing.

“I really feel bad that the incident happened,” Montoya said. “It was only meant as a joke to one of my friends. I completely understand NASCAR’s point of view and their decision.”

Todd Brewer, crew chief of the No. 25 Ford driven by David Gilliland, was also fined $2,000 after the No. 25 car was found with unapproved hollow jacking bolts.

montoya is working on becoming my new favorite driver… next to tony and junior of course.

Nascar will do anything to make money. I wish Brian would stay in China.

  3. 3 Joseph

so….what happened exactly? did he flip someone off?

    Joseph.

  4. 4 love racin

he flipped off the in car camera during practice, but it was seen on tv…

  5. 5 kevin

Like I said the other day, put a 7 second delay on the broadcast. If they did that there would be no cursing or anything else not deemed appropriate for TV

  6. 6 sean

they said they put a delay on the tv cameras but they didnt. it was only said so they would get around being fined by the fcc. they aint done shit.

There is actually a delay on everything, audio & video. When I was at the track in atlanta, we had directv in or camper watching it aswell, and there was a good 10+ seconds of delay. 15+ when they started talking. I figure they are running a 5 wsecond delay on regular video time and 7 when they doo drivers or something. I figure some of that is satelitte lag too. but no way coudl all of tha tbe.

Wow. I didn’t know that NASCAR can be so petty. While we’re at it, since we’re fining guys for flipping the bird, how about we fine every driver who whines when a race doesn’t go their way? Perhaps they can fine every drive who has ever had an original thought.

For the record, yes, I’m being sarcastic:P I’m just showing how NASCAR/NEXTEL/Hendrickville has become outrageously petty.

There is only a delay for certain broadcasts and broadcasters as up until last year as far as I know. If it was Speed channel braodcasting this practice I know they definitely don’t have that rule and don’t care what the drivers say or do. They’re on cable!!! Who are these prudes who want the 7 or whatever second delay anyway? Its life! Sometimes people say or do things you may not like. Deal with it. TV is our window on their world. THEIR world. Especially when it is inside the car. I hope Montoya doesn’t say anything about nappy headed ho’s on his radio… He might get banned for life.

Big deal, he gave the camera the bird, like we haven’t seen that exchange during a Nextel cup race.. Like we don’t see that in real life just driving around town..

I bet he wouldn’t get in trouble if he had a Chevy emblem on his car and he raced for hendrick.

we get it. we really do. montoya got screwed for flippin the damn bird. can he fine gordon and johnson for cheating? nascar is becoming a joke

It was very immature on his part, i mean c’mon people start acting your age.
That’s high school s@$t! He’s a schmuck anyway, good job NASCAR!

  13. 13 Axel Foley

A schmuck? lol. If you’re talking about his personal life, he may be. On the track he is far from it. Its funny when people spit words they’ll have to eat later. Middle finger or not. He was having fun. Some people don’t seem to know what that is. Offensive or not… Some people’s faces are offensive to me. I don’t see them getting fined.

  14. 14 me

i agree w/ anonymous on the track i think he still has some proving to do

  15. 15 Anonymous

I do not believe i will “eat my words”. It is MY opinion, in wich i am entitled. I am all for having fun, but where is the “fun” in flipping someone off? Children watch NASCAR to, and to some of these kids these drivers are heros to them. I simply found it to be a gesture done in very poor taste, and tells a lot about who he is. IMO

  16. 16 Axel Foley

I didn’t say you would eat your words. I said that is funny when people have to at a later point in time, but in my opinion this will happen to you.

Montoya has been racing for a long time before he came to NASCAR his ability as a driver in general is proven. He does have alot to learn about stock car racing but from the risks he takes and the moves he makes he has taken to it like a fish does to water. That’s more than you can say about somebody like Casey Mears or even Robby Gordon… Just to throw some names that fit the reverse of what Montoya is and could be. Just my opinion…

ALSO, this incident did not occur during a race broadcast… It was during practice. What kid watches that? NASCAR knows the risk of incar video and audio… Its the risk they take. You should hear Junior’s in car radio!!! My God! I think this happened on cable anyways… It would also be a risk you have taken for letting your kids watch TV period. Life in general is pretty offensive. And trust me… Flipping someone off (especially if you like them) is fun. Try it some time. Again, Just my opinion so don’t get all bent out of shape about it.

  17. 17 Anonymous

Ok, i hear ya on the fact it was only practice, his actions on and off the track leave a lot to be desired. IMO i think he’s getting a bit big for his britches. Confidence and arrogance are two different things. As for kids watching practice, why would you think they wouldn’t? And yes life is offensive, but why go out of your way to make it that way? I have flipped my share of the bird yes, but i don’t have cameras up my a$$.
I see your point to a point, i have a choice to listen to JR’s radio, i didn’t have one when i watched Montoya. Well i suppose i did but you get my drift.

Im not sure why you think i will eat my words, but again your opinion.
Also i am in no way bending out of shape in anyway, i truly enjoy an intelligent debate among adults.

Well Anonymous it sounds to me like you are eating your words with all the back peddleing
that you are writing. So what if kids see it, yours probably saw you having fun. Some people
should just keep their thoughts to themselves. Anyone and everyone knows that is just
a gesture. You have a choice not to watch or listen to the races. If you don’t like it
    then
screw you. Oh my, did I write that? There are gonna be kids reading this, but hey the parent
should be the one who is responsible and I bet that the kids have seen worse things. You say tha
that you don’t have cameras up your ass guess youve never be out of your town. Sorry just my OPINION
OPINION and yes everyone is entitled to have one.

  19. 19 Anonymous

Ok first of all you say everyone is entitled to their own opinion,
but it seems to me by your post if your opinoin differs from another
they should keep it to themselves. I am entitled to express my views
just as much as you, but because i do not agree with you i would not
resort to being incredibly rude and say “screw you”.

You feel the way you feel, good for you, but good lord theres no reason
    to be such an A@@!

    JUST MY OPINION!!!!

  20. 20 koolaid

if they did a 7 second delay they would not have a reason to fine anyone and be unable to make all that fine money!!
